what cross do you dislike & why ?

How can you go around and say bull xs are slow and carnt turn. You may of seen a few bad ones in your time i think.

Iv seen a few run one or two bad ones but a few realy good ones catching alsorts off quarry even seen a bull x run and catch day time winter hares on quite big land seen them ferreting and catch more than the othwr dog. If you get a well bred racey bull x and bring it up right then it will fill a pot just like any other xs.

 

There is good and bad in all crosses i dont dislike any cross as if i see a hundred collie crosses run and think there every one is shit i will put that down as the dog not capable and i wont say collie xs are shit because iv seen bad examples of the x. The trick is keep an open mind

ive had racey type bull-crosses and dont think there slow or nasty. the saluki that ive got now is great up the fields but can be very tempremental with other bitches and very stubborn but in my opinion that doesnt make her a bad dog. i suppose its what you expect out of a dog and how you train them to achieve it. i dont think an angry dog as a fashion symbol makes an honorable hunting man. an obedient dog that you can trust to do as you ask is a good dog no matter what cross

i would say dogs killing varmits is no big deal wether fox or whatever as that is what they were bred for to kill varmits, wether up in the higlands of scotland todd killing dogs are handy as foxes kill lambs so do badgers , so a handy dog will help the todd hunter to kill the varmit , as its his job , part of countryside matters having dogs to help deal with pests , guns are handy snares to but its handy having agood strong dog like acoyote hound or deerhond type to kill varmits pests etc ,ive saw fox packs pre ban acoount for 10 foxes in a day saved the farmer a good few lambs

The problem as I see it is that far too many people make up their minds based on just one or two examples of a type. Surely you'd need to see and know many examples of a type of lurcher before truly being able to analyse and give an objective opinion on them? I've seen rubbish and superb in many types of lurcher, so I'd never give a blanket opinion on any of them.

 

The longer I go on in lurchers, the more I realise that different types of dog are capable of doing the same type of work very well: size, stamina etc taken into consideration. The dog that is physically and mentally suited to the type of work it does will always outshine the ones that are not, regardless of breeds in the mix. I've seen a handy little Bull cross do very well on hares............... ON THE RIGHT GROUND which favoured the dog, and I've seen Saluki types do well on terrible ground more suited to a tractor, and on prey not usually associated with Saluki types.

 

IMO there will always be exceptions to any rule or type, but to be prejudiced against one particular type based on limited experience is a little short sighted.

got to agree tomo /skycat the bull x can and often do make very good members to a team if trained and brought on right like any dog like been said a few bad examples then there all bad but you could say that about most crosses funny how good dog men always have good dogs and of different crosses at one time or another and for me its not all about killing but the hunt and criac

The poor old bull x, out of the right stuff in the right hands can be a awsome tool

however any cross has its limits althoe this bitch will and does hover rabbits up she is limited due to her size and weight

this bitch will turn some stomachs even more as its also got a dash of saluki in it too

This bitch is a great ferreting companion loves to mark gives bolters no time
