albert64 1,882
so what he's saying is it does'nt matter what dog he puts across his bitch because they'll all take after the bitch anyway well you live and learn Quote Link to post
Neal 1,857
I was under the impression that although 50% coming from each seems logical, it's also effected by other elements eg if one of the parents is more prepotent then any resulting pups will have more of a stamp of that parent. I also read somewhere recently (sorry: can't remember where) about how certain elements are only inherited from the female...as I said, I can't remember where I read or heard about this so it may have been referring to either dogs or humans but would presumably apply to both. This could be why, although a male has the potential to "produce" more pups, some people base their breeding on a strong female line and use specially selected males to compliment the line. 1 Quote Link to post
littlefish 574
ya but do you not think that if the bitch is good dat the pups should be more taking after her than the sire like they say its 3/4 the mother 1/4 the father ive never heard that before or believe it 50/50 in my opinion if you put a beddy dog on a whippet bitch its 1/4 beddy 3/4 whippet was big into greyhounds few years back always looked at the bitch first if i was getting a pup thats why i said id see other opinions Can you put a link up showing showing some evidence based scientific reports to prove this? Surely this breeding would be 50/50/ half cross? 1 Quote Link to post

patterdale666 1,620
Sean it would be half beddy half whippet but i see what you're saying about the bitch the pups taking after her shape wise etc. If you done that cross the other way around they can take after the beddy Quote Link to post

The pups would be half Beddy, half Whippet ! Cheers. they would be half beddy half whippet. when breeding beddy greyhound or bull greyhounds most people say we like to use the greyhound as the bitch as it give them more hight and a bit more speed ( which it does ) so explain that fcuker to me, and why is one is a mule and one a hinny, if there wasnt a difference wouldnt it be pot luck how they turned out ,anyone can say say its nonsnse, the trouble is its right in front of peoples noses but to blind to see, humans, animals, plants we all work in the same way . sorry CH iv just crawled out bed never read it properly so im not having a go at you,all the best Edited May 13, 2012 by TALKS CHEAP Quote Link to post
