tod 3
imo i would get out lamping with the dog now especialy while were having all this rain..only give it squatters or runs you would give to a green pup and get the dog catching and get its confidence up.get back out lamping as soon as you can and give it some harder runs,if its still pulling up or running half arsed its time to get rid imo.no point in resting the dog right through the summer then come the season, first night out and the dogs picking and choosing its runs get it sorted now rather than later. He puts a lot of effort into the BIG bunnies that sit in the middle of fields  And oh deer oh deer 100% He has ran bunnies on the lamp a couple of times and is keen as f**k Thanks DEKA Quote Link to post

DEKAW 85
keep him away from the rabbits for the time beingas they are probably frustrating him and you dont want it getting in to his head that he cant catch them wait untill september and get him on to some them big rabbits were he has a bit of space and time to do the job.i think the big rabbits will suit that breed better or else you could give it a dropper I have took your advice and keep him away from anything thats furry and runs. Just been doing a bit of road work, running around on the local playing fields and down to the beach. Just come back from a mooch through the fields with the lurcher and terrier. F**k me what a difference in him. Terrier flushed a couple of bunnies out and he just seemed to explode into action ran them right up to the hedge rows without pulling up the word came into my head a few times"stop, stop, for f**k sake stop. Well im chuffed to bits with his effort today. Thanks for all the advice. DEKA Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Give him a couple of dropers, should be just fine. Frank. Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
Good on you for sticking at it and good to hear the dog is doing better, shame so many are so quick throw a dog on the scrap heap. There are any number of ways of working through little problems like these, the dog is still mentally just a pup at the end of the day. No wonder rescue shelters are overflowing with lurchers. Almost everyone seems to just want made dogs these days the slightest little hitch and the dogs gone get another. Edited June 23, 2007 by Meerihunter Quote Link to post

whin 463
i think a lot people, not on just silly comps but in general want instant succses , without the graft put in ive been lucky with some dogs they were world beaters young but ive had some that took there time and developed a lot more slowly , all depends with breeding , but in saying that a lifetimes expeirence that no comp book or otherwise can get , look at the dog you have see his breeding and well i wouldnt have a 27 jukel for knocking rabbs next to a fence , ive got saluksx who no rabbs next to holes hedges in day time are useless but on the lamp they have achance and ive got dogs at 7 plus who run still like its there last race , alll dogs are diff keep him away from silly rabbs until the nights draw in and pick your chances , one of my young saluk cross my collie cross was in next , doors garden rabbits all along fence , she just stalks naturally till she gets a killing chance , but in an open feild there no stalking full pelt and tries to kill . all dogs are diff all the best Quote Link to post
