StevoSmith 147
I think the virus can live about 100-130 days without a host then dies off........fkin nightmare mate....i got a mate who live 30 miles from me and rabbit pop has been hammered by it for like last 3-5 years...his perms are silent no rabbit activity it's a sad thing mate cause no rabbit survives And for the immunity to build up you need a Buck to survive and a Doe...then they then pass on this gene to the next...but in all honesty for 2 rabbits to survive is very slim indeed...even with mixi it's taken decades for enough rabbits to survive to pass the imunity on to next gen.....very sad i know but it always takes time Edited to say with VHD it Kills 95-100% it infects...thats the scale of the issue you face if your perm does indeed have the virus and because it kills in under 48 hours there is little or no chance...have a read on google mate it will tell you everything about it Edited May 13, 2012 by StevoSmith 1 Quote Link to post

hutch6 550
The way to tell if it is VHD is to follow the common path of the wind and look in places down wind to see if there are rabbits kicking about, then try up wind and last of all either direction outside of the wind channel. If there are rabbits knocking about then chances are it isn't VHD. If you truly want to be doubly sure you could always ask the land owner if it is ok to dig up a small warren to see if you can find the rabbits corpses or if the land isn't to be disturbed you could buy a rabbit and plonk it in a wire run just outside a burrow and see what happens. Have you checked the burrow crests for peg holes, hedgerows for broken twigs etc which would be signs that a warrener has paid a visit. Is the landowner aware of anything? Quote Link to post
