Lewis Ste 245
right lads i want to know your opinions on what breeds to have in a dog. i do a few beats with the shoot to earn a few quid so need something that will have good recall, obetiant and will retrieve. it will mainly been running rabbits with the ferrets and lamping but i want something thats not scared to bite back. the cross i had in mind is a collie grey x deer hound whippet. my mate has one of these but its to timid and small for anything that fights back lewis Quote Link to post
talt 878
one of jeff burrells superdogs, Noah of the ark purportedly started this strain from two norfolk lurchers his grandfather gave him Quote Link to post

Big Jim101 29
a good 1st cross collie greyhound would be your best bet if your going on shoot days, the most obedient cross you could probably ask for so you wont have the embarrassment on shoot days of it screaming off across a field after things it shouldnt be. it will ferret and lamp happily, but mabye in a different style to a sight hound saturated dog, but it will still do a good enough job. when it comes to taking anything that might bite back its luck of the draw. its the heart in the dog not the breeds in it that makes a good fox dog (although it is more likely with anything with terrier in). as long as you enter it correctly you have a good chance of getting a very good alrounder in a nice first cross colliexgrey from working parents. atb with you search Jim 1 Quote Link to post
cocker 2,654
bedlington collie whippet greyhound, based, working lurcher to working lurcher, it wouldn't matter to me about percentages, i reckon it would be a handy size, game, fast enough for most stuff, trainable, with a good coat and feet, i wouldn't have something to sight hound based, for the job your doing. 3 Quote Link to post

Big Jim101 29
you could always get a nice little cocker AND a lurcher. unbeatable bushing team and you could use the cocker for shoot days and the lurcher for everthing else?? Quote Link to post
