Ringing plod

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, even if you do ring them and a triple nine call is made, the police are duty bound to turn up, even if they know it's you

And the first unit to be sent will be an ARU

I was lucky last time the police showed up, the non-ARU Officer turned up first and called off the guns. She could have stayed around the corner and let the Guns go in first.

So while it can be a good idea, its not a foolproof prevention against the armed officers.

If the ARU do turn up, they will be shouting orders at you  Listen to them, make it clear that you are putting the gun down, pointing away from them, DO NOT be tempted to discharge it, dont even think about putting the safety back on if it's off, once the gun is on the floor, it's hands up move only as they tell you, and do it slowly  I have faced a couple of Glocks and a Taser before I was unarmed at the time, but being a known shooter, they treat me as if I was. And lets face it, in the same situation we would do exactly what they do and we would treat them just as they treat us.

In this free society, and without breaking any laws, I refuse to notify the police when I go shooting, as I have permission, and that is recorded on my fac.   When the law changes so that I have to

this subject has been flogged on here before i dont ring in and dont intend to if everyone does it it will become a legal requirement. but each to there own.

It is because I disagree with the way that police "opinions" influence some shooters, and not the application of the law.

Cars get used in crime, but I don't notify the cops everytime I go out in my car!

I totally agree,Its not a legal requirement at all and I only do it if I am lamping near to pheasant shoots,or small villages, what gets me is the police cant use common sense, they have the idea that everyone with a gun,is a maniac where are the people skills in comunication if they stopped trying to get there armed response attendence figures up ,and rely on some old policeing tactics, I remember getting pulled yrs ago by an inquisitive bobby he was sat by my car waiting for me when I got back,as soon as he saw the decoys and net he asked me the farmers name, where I had permission checked my gun licsense, enquiered if I had shot owt, thanked me for my co operation and went,he spoke to the farmer job done, he was a local bobby, who I saw on many occasions after that while he was on his rounds,he would regularly say hello superb bobby,he made it business to know who did what in the area, now its a town bobby who probably has no idea about how the country side works, who follow a set of procedures drawn up by a health and safety fanatic, who prefers panic to logic

I've had the boys in blue called on me by a do gooder. Result? Do gooder looked and should've felt a fool. No revenue to be had so police soon learn.

I agree tegater, i will never inform any 'authority' other than my mrs!

Cars! Deadly contraptions Joe public should certainly fear...deaths caused by one man army with sub 12ft/lb rifle in low population density vs fatalities on the road?

Be afraid do gooder! And get some damn sense!

Only time I inform the police is if I'm lamping, saves getting a tug when they think your hare or dear coursing, because the law really dont know the score when it comes to shooting, or running the dogs at legal quarry, and if you have ever had your guns confiscated, then you' ll know how long it takes to get them back, and funnily enough, the law only seem to confistcate airguns, maybe its because there's no licence on file to check up on.

As the law stands mate you do not.....but it's a good idea that you do otherwise you could lose a good few hours hunting if ARU show up trying to explain yourself

On another note...lets say i turned up at one of my perms at 3 am and land owners were in bed....i was busy doing my thing and plod turned up,,,,and had to wake up the said land owners because i failed to notify the police what i was doing....i doubt they would be very happy....ok this could happen anyway but it's less likely if i had informed them first

I never ring the law

To be honest with you I always let my landowner no if I'm gunna be hunting on his ground especially when lamping which is one of the requirements of the permission.

Like i have stated previously i need to on one of my perms as its 200 meters from police Helipad and we do fox clearance on it with High Velocity Rifles and Shotguns...i guess because of this i ring everytime we go out

If my permo was so close to a law establishment I would defo consider informing the boys in blue. Surprised youve got permission to shoot FAC so close to a police helicopter pad. Can't beat a bit of fox bashing.

I dont own the FAC mate its my fox clearing buddy's lol.......we only use SG when at closest point to Helipad for obvious reasons......there is a huge field between the edge of my perm and the police helipad....but it's one thing we are required to do to shoot on the perm.....the Land owner rings them also before we arrive and we ring once we are there

If I'm out in the middle of nowhere shooting with the night vision i don't bother, but if I'm using the lamp on a caravan park or on fields which back on to houses i just pop into the Police station and let them know. It just covers your ass and shows 'due diligence'. I know i don't have to, but i might be glad i did one day. Never underestimate the ability of the general public to suddenly go into ''JESUS CHRIST,HE'S GOT A GUUUUUN......CALL THE POLICE!!!'' mode at the drop of a hat.

I have had the police ring me after having a 999 reporting a man with a gun (a big powerful rifle, ahem), all I got was a phone call then local plod dropped by which was quite useful as I had found an undischarged shotgun cartridge on the permission and did not know what the heck to do with it. Local plod turns up, has a chat and gets given a present, he was pleased, not! Oh well if he does not want little explosive gifts he should stay away!

I was told who reported me, so I hid the gun, popped over the road, introduced myself, told the lady not to worry, if I saw someone wandering about near my house with a gun I would be ringing the police too! She laughed, ice broken, no problem, now if she sees me in the permission she just waves. But she knows I am there legally, I am not targeting moggy, doggy or kiddies, I am quite inoffensive really and that I am approachable!

think theres a fine line here, if your shoot is next to any where with people it probably a good idia to nip in the local stasion and have a chat, i.e. the golf course on the housing estate? the second a torch goes on on my local theres neighbours out and ringing..

in the middle of no where where you unlikely to see even the farmer...fffff no real nead is there?

Well I have houses across the road from part of my permission, less than a mile away from a nursery full of rugrats, less than two miles away from some schools, the road that borders part of the permission is quiet but well used if you know what I mean (it is on a bus route), other than that the only other people who know I am there are permission owners and workers in the local stink farm (sewage works)! But I phone in as it only takes one townie to waste a load of everybody's time!

To late for me...3 day's after the Derek Bird Insident I was on my golf course permission and had half the cumbria police force and ARU with a flipping ambulance in tow looking for me.

Just because somone was seen with a high power rifle in the area..ie Me with my hw100 air rifle

Tell you somthing thow steve...It made me ill for a few day's...i was in shock and couldnt sleep.

When they cought up with me they asked me to walk over to them so i did..but the rifle was loaded so i started to cock the side lever back to take the mag out and they started screaming put the rifle down :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

Eventually I told them it was an air rifle..he said does it look like a high powerd rifle to me..i said well in a way yes..He said well let's put it this way..it youd pointed it at us coming across that field we would have shot you.. :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: :icon_eek: ..They terrifyed the life out of me SERIOUSLEY.!!!!
