In this free society, and without breaking any laws, I refuse to notify the police when I go shooting, as I have permission, and that is recorded on my fac.   When the law changes so that I have to

Not criticizing you Steve, I just refuse to do it. It is not because I have an issue with the cops because I support them 100%.   It is because I disagree with the way that police "opinions" influen

this subject has been flogged on here before i dont ring in and dont intend to if everyone does it it will become a legal requirement. but each to there own.

As the law stands mate you do not.....but it's a good idea that you do otherwise you could lose a good few hours hunting if ARU show up trying to explain yourself

On another note...lets say i turned up at one of my perms at 3 am and land owners were in bed....i was busy doing my thing and plod turned up,,,,and had to wake up the said land owners because i failed to notify the police what i was doing....i doubt they would be very happy....ok this could happen anyway but it's less likely if i had informed them first

Each to their own. where I live the cops seem to police with some common sense.

The farmers on all of my permissions also shoot. Are we really lead to beleive that they all have to let the cops know, every time they step out of their door, with their gun, on their land!

Its popycock.

If you want to save the police's time, give them your phone number, and everytime that someone phones old bill to report you, (which probably hardly ever happens) tell the police to phone your number to confirm it is you shooting!

If they still turn out after that, then the whole process is a waste of time anyway.

Save spending the tax payers money, on tying up the police!

I have also had them ring me and ask me to keep an eye out for stolen vehicles! They use the farm tracks to escape sometimes....

well that is reason enough for me not to ring them to be honest i really dont want people ringing me, especially them to do their job for em.

thats not the point is it the point is that you have to phone before you go and then answer your phone to them while you are in the field. you may as well take your laptop and skype them then you could chat to them the whole time you were out.

As far as i can see and am concerned, at the moment its not the law that you have to inform anybody. So it is up to the individual, I don't. My permission page that the land owner signs, has on there hours that i can shoot. My permission is situated in the middle of no where, but still has one neighbour to which i introduced myself to him at my first sighting of him. I have taken this on as a matter of manners, i had a chat with him and explained that Mr X had called me in to try to reduce the numbers of vermin to which he was glad that something was being done about the problem.

The problem that i know happens because the ambulance service is the same. When you phone the non emergency number you get hold of somebody they arn't even in your area, the control rooms are now no longer local. So if you do phone the chances of it being put through to the correct local bobbies are virtually nil. The only way you can know its going to get to the correct station, is to look it up yourself and phone them.

If my shoot was in a rural area and farmers and the like are carrying guns as a norm, then i would not phone. But if my permission was in a built up area, then personally i would sort out the local stations number and report but i would also ask them if they wanted a phone call everytime. You might find that once they had been contacted and been given all the relivant information, land owners details (doubt if the had it any way), your name etc including cars details that then they might say not to bother again. If joe public does then have cause to report you, all it would take is a panda car to drive past and see its the reg number you had given them. Job done.

Personal choice, at the moment on the permissions that i have, my answer is no i haven't. But that might change on my next permission.
