gnasher16 30,146
but he was gnash he was in a class of his own , So what class opponent was he fighting ?
gnasher16 30,146
That's right, he'd jump into a ring anywhere against anyone, he knew what was expected of him and done his job well. He said PJ Gallagher was the best he fought, he said Hatton wasn't a banger at all but hit him with so many punches to body and head that he didn't know where the next punch was going to land. Good lad he is. Its funny how the game has changed in that way.....years ago a good sparring partner was worth their weight in gold whereas today they take on a career of their own as journeyman i dont think the money can be anywhere near as good especially if they get knocked out they,re on a 30 day ban straight away whereas years ago we was getting paid week to week you might be up different ends of the country every week it was the " have gumshield will travel " attitude Sparring partners would have their own trainers their own contracts......Today journeymen are notching up 150 odd losses but still getting the work.......I think today its set up to build a good record whereas back then it was set up to build a good fighter......Times change i suppose. I tend to agree mate, every lad with a bit of talent must be unbeaten to sell to the public. A man can earn a decent living from being a journeyman if they're capable enough. Brian said that Frank Warren and Barry Hearn always paid him well and were sound, but he said Frank Maloney and Panix promotions paid a pittence lol!

Shavers was one of the hardest punchers in heavyweight history,Jerry Quarry was an excellent fighter both would of been world champions in probably any other era....so yes of course they was world class as was Holmes Frazier Foreman,Norton and all the others who fought and beat other world rated fighters on a regular basis and themself became champions................ The chap Attack fell terrier has a good understanding of the sport and can word things in a simple to understand way rather than sounding like a broken record like i do .......if you cant understand what he told you, then you never will....or maybe just dont want to Just out of interest gonetoearth.....a fighter like for instance Miguel Cotto.....is he world class ? Brian said that Frank Warren and Barry Hearn always paid him well and were sound, but he said Frank Maloney and Panix promotions paid a pittence lol! Thats the thing, todays journeymen have to put trust in promoters whereas back then you was pretty much an employee of the fighter you was sparring....or at least the manager of the fighter or the gym you was training at........the fighter you was preparing paid your wages out of his wages same as he paid his trainer and cutman etc He might get some stick but Frank Warren is an honourable man regarding money if he makes a deal he will stand on......years ago people like Astaire,Duff,Levene,Mike Barrat would pay you in drips and drabs it was hard work getting your own money back which meant if you was associated to a good gym you couldnt be f****d about by them as much. Anyway good luck to your pal moneys not everything if you can make a living doing something you love thats sometimes reward enough.

gnasher16 30,146
A north south thing ..........why would Audley Harrison be looked on as a world class fighter, did he ever maintain a top 4 or 5 rating....... no.....did he regularly compete with and/or beat top world rated opponents.....no..... So tell me......why do you see Cotto as a world class fighter but not David Haye ?......Cotto/Haye have both been rated at the top of their division......Cotto/Haye have both won and lost world titles......Cotto/Haye both regularly fight the best their division has to offer usually for world titles...................................so why one and not the other ?......or are you just making it up as you go along

gonetoearth 5,144
ok Why do you not think a fighter who is a world champion is world class then ..........as far as im concerned any fighter who is in the top 10 is world class thats the whole point of having ratings,if theres only 1 world class fighter in the world we dont really have a sport ! harrison was top ten at one time was he not
