Ballywalter Game and Country Living Fair yesterday Sunday 6th May

Recommended Posts

The alarm clock went off loud and clear on Sunday morning at 6.00am, which signalled for me the start of another brilliant day at Ballywalter Game and Country Living Fair. After enjoying a great day on Saturday at Ballywalter, visiting the many trade stands including Lawrence Hawleys stand who had some lovely ladies hunter wellingtons and all necessities to do with country living. Lawrence travels over from Newcastle, and told me he just loves Ballywalter and its people, and looks forward to coming here with his stand every year. I also visited Stephen Smiths Barbour Country Wear. Some lovely jackets there at reasonable prices, and I stopped off at Richard from Portadowns " Outdoor Experience" Stand. Some great bargains here and a load of choice goods.I enjoying the Miss Country living contest sponsored by Sunday Life Newspaper, and judged by Mr Paul Pringle, and Mr Keith Matthews, managed some fly fishing under the watchful eye of instructor Mark Patterson Flyfish NI,took part in the Terrier,Whippet and Lurcher racing demonstration in the main arena, and watched many more events in the main arena including Keith Matthews and his dog obedience. Keith gave a very professional performance of which nearly every family at the Game Fair took part in. Headed up to the Courtyard and sampled all the beautiful food up there. It made me very proud to be from Northern Ireland where such great food can be produced. Having such a relaxing fun day out on Saturday, I just could not wait to get back up there on Sunday. So with Big John and Whippets in toe, we set off on our journey and a labour of love. The sun shone continously, with not a cloud in the sky and did so all day to we returned home in the evening at 9.00pm.

The Dog Show started promptly at 11.00am,with the car park packed with cars, vans and dog trailers.A very big turnout from the Canine fraternity. The showing commenced with Albertj Tetterington welcoming everybody to the show and introducing the Judges.

And finally, many thanks to the Judges, and the Glenbank Club, you both had difficult tasks to carry out on the day, and did it with precision. Bluebell, what can I say that I have not said about you over the years. Many thanks for all the photographs taken on the day. We are eternally grateful to you for recording all our moments of glory. Look forward to seeing them up soon. A big thank you to Davy of Dog TV, for following us all around over the 2 days. You did a great job, and such a nice pleasant man.and Rosmary from Sunday Life, you were a pleasure to speak to and you looked after the contestant of Miss Country Living all day just like a mother.Rosmary a job well done.

And the persons responsible for all the Fun of the Fair is Game Fair director Mr Albertj Tetterington and his good wife Irene. Irene works tirelessley behind the scenes at central control, making sure everything goes right on the day. Albert you have given so many people and families so much enjoyment over the years with your Game Fairs, each year going from strenght to strenght. and this weekend was no different. So many people went home happy with their winnings. Of this we are all truly grateful, and may you, your fellow directors, committe and team of helpers have continued success for many years to come. So now Ballywalter is over, lets all get ready for Shanes Castle :

Albert, as you know I have been attending these events for many years and I have a few all-ireland titles under my belt. My dog Maverick has been an exceptional dog at both racing and showing, he is

If I can I would be delighted to be present. Allegations are easy to make!

never mind kristy harper, the young lady bought what she thought was a whippet and now because shes wiping everyones arse they excuse her of alsorts, because the dog is a rocket or just well trained.

what about the two co.armagh sisters with the litter of unmarked greyhounds out of the greyhound on the side of there trailer.her story is that the two pups, owned by the older sister of the two has ,are out of non-peds in england :tongue2: :tongue2: lolololol

if this is true why arent they dew-clawed,and she has conveniently forgotten who breed them and there breeding, she lifted her prize without a bother on her, big smile for cheating

it will be interesting to find out what there mother is when they go to race the litter mates around drumbo.

the others they disided to register.theyve a yard full of unmarked greyhound

  ,think il get in touch with the greyhound club here as what theyre doing is against there rules,to see what they have to say.

these are the two girls that are informing on the kristys whippet, sorry girls, you shouldnt throw stones if you live in a glass house :icon_redface: :icon_redface:

OH OH !! MORE SKELINGTONS :icon_redface: :icon_redface: dont tell us...you bred them youselves

Ladies & Gentlemen - very loosely speaking! You do your sport no good whatsover by throwing allegations about and turning people against each other. At a time when I think terrier & lurchers are going to come under even greater scrutiny and threat it is a time for coming together and organising not fighting over the breeding of dogs. Allegations are easy to make but difficult to prove. There will always be suspicions and I regret to say envy about really fast dogs especially those which are bred closer and closer to greyhounds. That is why we introduced the new Novice Racing which - if we decide to carry on with terriers & lurchers at our shows - and that is at present uncertain after 2012 - will be extended in 2013.

My personal congraulations to the terrier/cross group who displayed great enthusiasm for the new events.

Regarding allegations of 'cheating' at Ballywalter - NO ONE OBJECTED ON THE DAY - I took the decision to classify Kirsty's dog as such she ran legitimately. AND the guy who ran 2nd did not object - he was the one who was most affected by my decision and I have been in touch with him and have duplicated the prize Kirsty won. The Harpurs have now agreed with me amicably that the dog be re- classifed for our future shows. That is the end of the matter.

Albert

The Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions Saturday 7thSeptember 24
Laurencetown is famous for its green fields, ancient buildings, walled gardens and extensive lawns stretching down to the River Bann. But as well as these famous landmarks, Laurencetown can add another string to its bow by adding the annual Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions to its attractions and venue.
Saturday was one of the warmest days of the year with the sun shinning down continuously. I got burned alive but all well worth it. Our Country Sportsmen, women and children came out to this now annual dog show to enjoy the last days of the summer sunshine.
Our summer Dog shows have become canine excursions from all parts of the country North and South of the Border. Saturday was no exception with a good turnout of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Strong dogs.
And wait for it, the big surprise of the day and what a pleasant surprise that was. The McGrath Racing Club arrived unexpectedly for a family day out to support the show. And guess what they acted on the spot with an impromptu few races to the joy of many of the racing fraternity at the show.
The childrens handling class was first on the list and judged by Marian Cree. What a turnout of children in the ring on Saturday. I can still see the smile on Clodagh Gentle face on winning 1st with her   Whippet Clive. These young boys and girls are our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. I have no doubt in my mind that these little people will carry on the sport after our day. Well done Marian and congratulations to all.

LBKs DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SUNDAY 1stSEPTEMBER 24
Scrabo Tower is one of Northern Irelands most iconic landmarks and stands majestically on the hill 540 feet above sea level. Beneath the pathway to Scrabo Tower lies the famous family run farm Scrabo Cottage Farm with its beautiful landscapes, scenic views, and a birds eye view right across Belfast. This was the venue for the LBKs Dog Show and Race day Sunday 1stSeptember 24.
As venues go for shows, this was up there among the best. I can honestly say I have never seen such a display of Plaques, Trophys and first class Rosettes on display, and all up for grabs on the day. Dogs and Bitches in every category were split up and each allocated their own Championship and reserve and at the end of the day an Overall Champion and Reserve.
Everything was planned meticulously, and all of the day went without a hitch. The rings were well spaced out, toilet, Burger stand, Country Sports stand, brilliant racetrack, and a bouncy castle for the wee people.
The views from this venue were to die for. With the shadow of Scrabo looking down on us, we had a clear view right across Belfast and beyond. This venue being cited on a hill, there was a cool breeze all day with small specks of rain in between.
It was nice to meet up with so many like minded people in the country sports fraternity. I had the pleasure of been introduced too renowned and international terrier judge Mr Robert Booth. What a gentleman he was. We had a nice conversation and he told me he loved Ireland and that he lived in County Tipperary for some time and knew the country quite well. Robert also presented Harry John Digging with a lovely Trophy set on a wooden stand for reaching out his friendship to him and to commemorate his time in Northern Ireland. What a lovely gesture.
It was a day of good will and presentations when Harry John Digging presented Peter Morgan with a lovely plaque for respect for running his shows. What better man with a lifetime of experience.
Niall O Cloghan and his sons were on site with their now very popular Terrier Maze. As the work in the field will begin shortly, It was great to see the excitement of the working terrier men when their prized terriers negotiated the Terrier Maze with speed and come out the other side to win the fastest time championship. This accolade went to Jed Donagh with PiP and Reserve to Lee Spiers with Buddy. Well done team O Cloghan.
Time passes so quickly, very soon it was Race time.

And Finally, Finally, Harry John Digging you were definitely the King of Scrabo on Sunday and in a league of your own. Along with your back up angel Gail Ross, who pulled out all the stops to make everything run so smoothly, and Sam Ross the photographer who took some lovely photographs, you brought town and country North and South of the border together for another great sporting day out.
You are a shinning light in our Country Sport traditions and for a first time show and venue, it was excellent and without contradiction.  Harry John Digging you should be proud of the work you done on Sunday. Thank you for a day full of joy and excitement and roll on 2025 for more of the same.
