kenny14 656
I read an interesting article in a health magazine a while ago, regarding top athletes being compromised by been a vegi. In a nut shell by being a vegi your missing out of nutrients that only meat can provide, and that soya and other protein substitutes carnt provide. Probally wouldn't be an issue for your average joe, but for an athlete, then yes. Many vegies claim that 'we can get all the vitamins, protein etc from vegetables and nuts, so there's no need to eat meat'. In part that's true, but our digestive system can't extract and convert many of these as efficiently as it can from meat. I always look at it this way - On the African savanah, all the herbivores, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Atelope etc spend the vast majority of their time eating grass and other vegetation. While carnivores such as Lions, Leopards and wild Dogs are either hunting, sleeping or on the lookout for a mate...... Bit of a no brainer really! I read somewhere before that the reason some folk thrive on a veggie diet and others don,t is to do with your blood type and your ancestory, if you descend from Europe ( nuts, seeds, etc ) you are fine on a vegetarian diet but if you are descended from Africa, Asia etc ( meat eaters ) you won,t do well on a veggie diet, Don,t know if theres any truth in it though lol I must be descended from Africans then 'cos I'm sure I'd waste away after even a week of a veggie diet

socks 32,253
My misses was a veggie for 16 years ... When she was in school she was brainwashed by a teacher about animal cruelty that and the way animals were transported back then convinced her to become a full on veggie she would check packaging for any trace of animal fats or cocheniel (spelling) wouldn't wear leather or any animal by product that had resulted in the death of an animal however she never preached to anybody else about being a meat eater and she always cooked meat for the kids and me .... After a few years of marriage and seeing the other side of meat production from the wild and free range she has converted back to eating meat ... We only eat free range or wild even our bacon is Wiltshire farm reared and not that intensively farmed Danish muck that's full of salt and water ... We even drink organic milk it's only a few pence more a pint and at least you know the cows it's come from have been out grazing on natural grass and not stuck in a stall 24/7 being fed all sorts of shit to produce more milk them poor fukcers are as bad off as battery hens .............

Would not eating a worm kind of go against the whole ethos of being a vegetarian?

Ratreeper 441
I prefer vegetarians to the the hypocrites who say it is wrong to kill an animal, but still eat battery eggs, KFC and any meat from a supermarket. I always make an effort to make sure I buy British meat and free range or from a farm shop, I have no problem with eating animals (obviously) but I think they deserve a natural life before becoming delicious. I can't be doing with Danish bacon from sow stalls or intensive farming, especially for clever chaps like pigs that bite each others tails off and generally have a bad day everyday when they can't forage around. But, even worse are the self-righteous veggies that say they never eat meat..........apart from fish and chicken, it makes me want to slap them in the crotch.

kenny14 656
I know a couple of men who are meat eaters but aren't allowed to have meat in the house because their partners are vegetarian! No way would I put up with that, if I was living with a veggie I'd respect that they didn't want to eat meat, and wouldn't expect them to, and in turn I'd expect to be left in peace to eat my preffered diet. In my book respect works both ways .

A bloke I used to know married a veggie...for some reason told her that he'll also become a veggie, but every week went round to his mums for a meal and she cooked him steak. He's been married to her for 13 years and has kept up the pretence for all that time that he's a veggie.....what a spineless twat!
