paulus 26
what would happen if you told them you couldnt get one? they couldnt in theory refuse your application on them grounds, as its not a legal requirement Quote Link to post

Simonrees 45
I have to say, I can't help thinking that the idea of mentoring, is a good one. lets face it as it stands anyone without any training or knowledge can obtain an FAC and be responsible for a firearm. I've seen some bloody dangerous people over the years with Shoguns and can't help thinking that a couple of hours training would have made these people a lot safer. At the end of the day a Mentor is a lot cheaper than forcing us to attend a safety/competence course for which we would no doubt have to pay a small fortune. I've only had my FAC a short time but I have a military background so safety and gun handling etc, is ingrained in me and I would be more than happy to mentor anyone. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
I think thats a fair point SImon. As long as the onus of responsibility doesn't fall on the mentors if things consequently go awry. Quote Link to post

jmj121 30
In the work, that i do as a day job.... I train loads of people and you do get a 6th sense on people.... but i do agree with Duncan that Mentors should have some kind of protection "if" things go wrong at a later date !! After all its the FEO's that are insisting that mentors are used ? Quote Link to post
PlasticJock 539
But the referee forms state ''You are not guaranteeing the future conduct of the applicant'', so there's no way legally you could be prosecuted. If I crash can the DVLA be prosecuted for saying I'm ok to have a license??? Quote Link to post

If I crash can the DVLA be prosecuted for saying I'm ok to have a license??? The first chap I mentored just needed a report on his attitude towards and knowledge of shooting safety plus a bit of fac hunting experience. I wasn't a referee to attest to his character etc. Although IMO he was very sound. Quote Link to post
