Have i got any grounds????

Recommended Posts

I was out walking my terrier and lurchers on Saturday with an old man i know and his terrier and also my 2 sons

we were walking at a country park in Essex which used to be a dump years ago.

my 4 year old lurcher jumped down a hill over there and came out of the long grass carrying her back leg

it was pouring with blood .once i inspected the injury my 10 yr old son burst out crying, the bottom of her leg was hanging off,the tendon was severed and the bone was cut through.

I picked her up and carried her the 1/4 mile back to the car and rushed her to the vets in my car with my 12 year old holding the bottom of her leg together.

Once i had taken her from one vets to another and got her sedated and settled i returned to the park to see what she could have done this injury on.

while looking through the long grass at the trail of blood i found a big piece of china sticking out of the ground covered in blood. The whole area was full of china and glass sticking out and laying on the ground, this i belive was down to people digging for old bottles and jugs throughout the winter.now the nettles and grass had grown up and hidden all the hazards which looks to of cost me in the region of £1200 by this Friday.

My main worry is kids play over there and if one was to cut any part of their body or anyone elses dogs jump down there, the outcome could be bad.I have know got a top working lurcher and family pet which will never run at the same speeds again. The bone is to be fused together and then plated just below the hock

I know councils have insurance and they also have some responsibility. Will i have any grounds to claim against them? to help pay the vet bill?I dont have insurance as i have alot of dogs.

if so who can i speak to? as in does anyone know of any solicitors who would deal with this?

thanks

Jesus.......bad do that mate...........to be honest, if you know the thames estuary areas of Essex you will know that all along the place is old bottle dumps and such like, I just dont let my dogs run about these places.

I am sure you can try for a bit of compo, but you may just have to put it down to experience.

Hope the hound heals up well for you mate.

I would bring the issue up with whoever owns the land, as you say kids play up there, dont know if the health & safety thing is the same for outside as it is in the workplace but its worth looking into

Hope your dogs ok :)

Bloody hell, sorry to hear what happened, Poor dog and traumatising for your son  .Hope both are ok very soon.

Dont know about the land/bottles/glass, but I would look into, I know Wilf said it is well known that thats what the ground is like , but I would'nt know that, as i dont live round there, so there is an obviouse danger And next time it could be a kid a kid, Thats if it hasnt heppend already.

Unless these incedents are reported, sometimes to the media, you just dont know how many accidents have happend there.

I dont see why they would have a problem paying up, they should have done the ground reinstatment correctly

Get right round the back of the warren mate, by the creek........no one should bother you round there.

Stick some pic up of your dogs........I will look out for you when I am out and about.
