Help me decide, im confused!!

Recommended Posts

Hello

To put a long story short i need/want a 4x4 and have driven 400miles in the last 3 days looking at various options but cant decide.

I dont really want anything huge, but a suzuki is out due to towing capacity.

Went to look at a Disco but everyone keeps laughing saying they are a load of rubbish, but if im right the engines are strong and parts are cheap.

So i then started looking at swb pajero's found a lovely one locally, full service hist etc with only 70k on the clock, thought that was the one for me, job done, asked my mechanic if he has any views and he said to avoid at all costs, he has had no end in to do work on suspension, electrical issues, gearbox issues, ect ect ect.

so now i am looking at Terranos and possibly back to Discos.

What should i do? I want an auto and diesel ideally.

Any advice would be great. Do i go behind my trusted mechanics back and buy the Paj or keep looking and settle for a Terrano or CRV

Thanks in advance

James.

p.s need to tow around 1200kg and spending around £2500 at the top of my budget.

Forget about the Terrano for a start. If you've got a mechanic mate then take him along to look at the disco before you buy it.......

for the money your spending mate ,you would be better going with disco, either way you will probably be looking for parts sooner or later,so disco is the one to buy .my honest opinion is between 93 to 98 model,300tdi ,the only thing is if you want auto they are heavier than manual on fuel, hope this may help you ATB JACK PS after 98 model your into electricronic injectors, while there is nothing wrong with that, except if injectors go wrong, you could be into serious money to replace them

ok I'm an Engineer and I've had a Hi Lux ,pajero, Land rover and a crv , so what are you looking at towing ? if you want a small 4x4 and your not going mental in the dirt I would say CRV ours has never let us down , The Pajero can drink fuel quicker than Ami winehouse could do alcohol . And as for disco's well i call then the transit van of the 4x4 world strong as old boots and cheep as hell to repair , and they are nearly as easy to repair as a land rover . Good luck and i hope this helped

the terrano is a good bus. its adequate off road but its not a landrover 90 so you need to keep that in mind but you will do ok if your not doing extreem offroading, some good tyres is all they need.

depending what fuel pump they have you can run them on cooking oil neat if you wish but it needs diluting in winter. the engines same as the black cab london taxi and they work off gears so theres no timming belt or chain depending on the age of diesel motor. they do suffer rot and sunroof leeks but the sun roof is easy parts are cheep from millners and the car isnt too expensive. they do suffer rot so look at the sills and to the rear of the sills in the wheel arch, under any trim in wheel arch and were the inner wing meets the bulkhead

i would have one anyday over a disco
