Ballywalter Game and Country Living Fair yesterday Saturday 5th

Recommended Posts

Had a very relaxing and most enjoyable day yesterday with friends at Ballywalter Game and Country Living Fair. From early morning, car loads of families began arriving from all parts of the country to partake in all the fun of the fair. It was nice to be able to stroll around the many trade stands in the sunshine, all packed with their own specialised goods. There were lots of bargains on these stands and no doubt I did not come home empty handed. The main arena handed out some brilliant entertainment with Keith Matthews, and his dog training techniques, real family entertainment. Falconary/ Old Poacher and the Policeman/brilliant pipe band, and much much more.

The Miss Country Living contest took place in conjunction with " Sunday life Newspaper". and boy did this event create some interst. The judges had a difficult task picking 3 finalist from such a line up of Country Sports ladies at heart, all dedicated people and take part in many Country Sports across the country..A big congratulations to the 3 finalists,

Erin Corbett

Rose Mc Coy

Rachel Sinamon

These 3 girls need your votes Through the Sunday Life Newspaper for one of them to become Miss Country Living . (All details in to days Sunday Life Newspaper on how to vote for these 3 Country Living girls )

Have to go now as we are heading for Ballywalter again to day for the Great Terrier/Lurcherand Whippet showing and Racing there today. Cant wait, see you all there later. Promises to be another great day.

Rose Mc Coy has another task to perform at Ballywalter today. Rose is the Lurcher Judge there today. So Come along today Sunday with the family, plenty of entertainment for children and grown ups with all the fun of the fair.

i didnt really want to get involved in this rubbish but the lot of you want to take a step back and think ,i spent a whole lot of my time on sunday trying pretty hard to get lurchers involved on the

YES. Otherwise Dogs run in the relevant lurcher races.

the racing was crap.

I agree some nice terriers - including a little flyer that won the racing and a chunky one owned by no other than'Young Man'.

Delighted to meet this young , very sensible enthusiast and I look forward to seeing him at future shows.

Pleased to find time in a busy day to chat to some at the ring side and have a small side bet with Tully and another guy on the BIS. The other guy won! as 'ringside judges' Tully and I were both wrong - I went for the red , he the black and the judge and the winner of the bet went for the Jack Russell.

Kieran chose a top whippet, I was impressed with Rose's methodical judging and how she went over the dogs and Barrie ended up with three fine terriers from which to pick his BIS.

Congratulations to all of the winners and the Glenbank Club for putting on a good event. Yes there were a few little hiccups but overall racing and show went well on a course that we had rolled and filled 7 times!

Now we have had the aperitif' it is on to 2012's top terrier & lurcher event the 25th Anniversary All Ireland Championships and our 50th fair at Shanes Castle. Full details will be released soon BUT for now you can rest assured that I intend to make my 'Golden' fair really special for all competitors.

The DWTC Traditional Dog Show Sunday 25thMay 2025
As the showing season has now took off for 2025 and the work in the field complete, it was nice to be able to make our annual trip to the DWTC traditional dog show on Sunday  25th May  in Gilford.  The weather  was not kind to us, with a light wind and several heavy showers in between  classes. This did not dampen the spirits of the show goers who came out to support this now popular annual show. The venue was superb, and the crowd was big.
Our shows are all great meeting places in the summer season for genuine Terrier, Lurcher, Whippet and Strong dog men and women to come together for a bit of craic  and a chat, and maybe go home with a trophy or two. And that is exactly what happened at the DWTC show on Sunday.
It was nice to see so many families, their children and dogs all out on enjoying a day out at the sport we love. Our passion is showing with our Canine friends in the summer and back to the field with them in the winter.
As show time was about to start, first on the menu and first in the ring was the childrens handling class. And boy did these little folk show their dogs. There were 24 very excited we people in the ring and everyone with their very special friend. You were all winners on the day and all went home with bags of lovely goodies to munch on. Well done to all.
The show commenced at approximately 1.00pm.
*Here are the Overall Showing Results
      Childrens Handling Class
      1/ Jake Maginn with Fly
      2/ Amy Whitten with Snoopy
      3/ John Boyd with Jack
These young people participating are our huntsmen and women of tomorrow and will keep our Country Sports going long after we have gone.
Congratulations to the winners and all the children in the ring on Sunday.

      Congratulations to all above winners
And Finally, the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges.
      Childrens Handling Class
      Leanne Barry/Raymond Crilly
      Whippets / Jim Forrester
      Lurchers/ Jim Forrester
      Terriers/  Raymond Crilly
      Strong Dogs/ Eddie Shaw
And Finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Yes Tom and Leanne Barry, Ethan, Morgan, and your back up team Gary Mitchell and Thomas Coleman, you are all simply the best. Your show was run with impeccable organisation and everything ran without a hitch.
It was very evident a lot of preparation and hard work went on behind the scenes to make this show a success this year again and was a most enjoyable day for everyone.
Tom and Leanne, a brilliant day was had by all despite the rain. The window for Country Sports is in our blood and hopefully we will meet again at your show in 2026 for more of the same.
