I am having a problem with my 12moth old russel bitch she is brilliant on rabbits and will work the tightest cover all day long. The problem is as soon as she goes into cover her ears start bleeding on the edges so much that her whole body gets covered in blood. This doesnt bother her but it looks terrible and cant be good for her.I have tryed resting her up for 6 weeks but as soon as she goes in the first bramble patch she starts to bleed again. Any one had this problem before and did you cure it.

Had this problem for years and years, and no I've never found a cure  I do know that after a few seasons, the ear flaps are just one mass of scar tissue, so don't bleed so easily once they gone all crimped and thickened at the ends. Mean time, just make sure they don't get infected, and wash with salt water to remove all the dried blood: that can irritate them and then they scratch at them more and can make the ear flaps go infected.

Or you could try a tiny replica of an old fashioned flying cap made in leather a bit like a falcon's hood :tongue2: : just joking

My two are constantly covered in blood from their ears getting shredded! Get some funny looks on the walk home sometimes. Don't think there is anything to stop it other than giving them a crop lol or maybe a crash hat of some sort.

One of my dogs cut his ear open an with the ears the blood drips none stop, it would heal for a good while soon as he shook his head the scab would come off and start bleeding again. I did used to put sudocream on it that did slow the blood down a little bit but theres no really cure. Good job he hasnt opened the tips of his ears open in a while now i just think over time it will just be 1 big mass of dead tissue with alot of dried blood in amongst it.
