problem ?

My 13mth old dog will not follow or run the beam no more he will run 5 ft down the beam and turn and run back to me where as during the season he would run the full beam on to a squater trusting that there was a rabbit in the beam. iv had him out alot in the day day and h3 is doi.g realy well working the bushes with terreirs etc. he hasnt been on the lamp for about2 month or so.so i took him out and tryed him on a few to keep him abit clued up but just will not run the beam now. i know that i will have to start him again as if it were the first time ob the lamp but do you think this problom is a result of working him during the day too much and has any of you experianced this. A thought this dog would make a reaky good lamping dog also as ye worked the lamp so well

from what i,ve told you,ve done yourself mate by slipping on nothink down the lamp and filling the dog full of false promise so you know your anwser before even asking the question ,my advice 2 you is 2 leave the dog of the lamp for a couple month and start for the bottom up again and get the dog trust back on the lamp and you as the dog just full of false hope of the beam and not believing their nothink at the end of it ,hope you can turn the dog round i,m sure you can as only young ......atb gaz

If he gets used to running out and theres nothing there he will get f****d off with it. We all see a bit dew on a blade of grass and thing its a rabbits eye and send him on the odd false slip but you cant let it keep happening. Instead of sending him, walk out with him and only slip when the rabbit starts its run

a couple of walked up sqauters will sort the problem, beam on them, dog kept on slip, walk the dog up to the squater with the lamp on it all the time, only slip the dog when or if the rabbits runs

clever dog whats the point of running the beam if theres nothing there, you might see it but get down to the dogs level and have a look, he has got to learn to trust in you so sending him off after fresh air is a no no, at the end of the day he is still young and you are just confusing him.

Walked up squatters haha the dogs been 2 inches from a clapped rabbit when its ran and the dog has made no attempt to chase it, back to the drawing board I'd say

Go on ya own, I didn't slip my dog on them mickey did only because your dog had a million chances and wasn't running them and little jake wanted to see what lamping was all about, and the 6 my dog picked up saved the night cos yours was owa busy fannying about, its not running rabbits for one reason and that's down to you slippin it on fresh air

this is how i see it, the dog in question 13/14month old, has been lamping a few times and has ran on the lamp before and cought rabbits, but just resently has not been, at first the dog seem to run the beam after seeing the rabbit the rabbit would run then the dog would turn off if and run on an angle back, then slowly seemed to get less and less were now hes running 10ft say down the beam and turning back, on rabbits that are visable, the dog has been out during the day and done ok but as its been mentiond above i think its nothing to do with the day time outings, the lamp has been on say 10ft infront trying to slip the with no rabbits to see if he is alert puling even trying to shake the beam to atract the attention but nothing even for the split second when the lamps on the does not seem to be botherd, but has done in previes outings, there could be a number of reasons for this i think any thing from the dog is to clever if it thinks it cant make a catch, so there is no point running if its not going to catch to an underlying problem something under the survris, even down to food pheaps? time will tell a hope it comes good again,

Dont worry am going to go out on me own am just gunna pick a realy dark night and try and walk on a few squatters get them up in front of his face. Aye boader bitch and charlie chaser both have. Seen my dog run they both seen him catch on the lamp and seen him do it. With ease but gunna have to start again from basics
