The best terrier I ever owned " the punisher " would give up a bone to another dog let them eat out of his bowl let kids pull him around wouldn't dare raise his lip to another dog would allow the ferr

IMO it all comes down to the individual dog and how dominant it is around other dogs and what other dogs it is around. Look at wild dogs if the alpha male goes for a lower ranking dog it will back dow

she'll be with me for duration mate

Dog's display aggression towards other dogs and their quarry very differently imo, a dog that shy's away from other dogs aggression can be down to a few things mostly how it was through its puppyhood some dogs get bullied by litter mates and this can then show in a adult dog as being timid/shying away.

I had a lurcher years ago that would do everything to avoid conflict with other dogs but never took a backward step on toothed quarry. ;-)

Most dogs which are frightened of other dogs are like that because they haven't been properly socialised as small pups. If dog doesn't learn how to feel relaxed and confident around strange dogs before the age of 14 weeks, that window of opportunity has gone forever. Some dogs do learn how to overcome early neglect, but the majority will always be wary around dogs they don't know, throughout their lives.

This is a completely different behaviour to the prey and fight drives in dogs. I've had two very wimpy, naturally submissive bitches: small lurchers too: who were demons on fox: they wouldn't have said boo to a goose if they met a strange dog out walking. All too often people think that because their dog fronts up to other dogs or behaves aggressively to other dogs it would make a good killing dog: not so.

IMO it all comes down to the individual dog and how dominant it is around other dogs and what other dogs it is around. Look at wild dogs if the alpha male goes for a lower ranking dog it will back down and not fight. Although that doesnt stop even the lowest ranking dog to tackle its quarry when out on the hunt. So if you have a very dominant dog it could show more signs of aggression towards other dogs. IMO aggression and gameness are totally different
