What's wrong with my ferret?

Well it doesnt work like that IMO. Wouldnt let your kid suffer or if your ill you go to the doctors. People CHOOSE to have animals but

dont like the reponsibility of taking them to a vet.

The lad was obviously concerned enough to put a thread up asking what to do. When ferrets are ill they go down hill VERY quick.

You can only learn from your mistakes.

likelyhood is the vet would have given antibiotics and sent the ferret home anyway, so the outcome may well have the same no way on this earth can you compare a ferret to a kid

OK, so i understand what you are saying, and i believe that all stock, of whatever type, should be cared for to the best of your ability, and that obviously includes any neccessary trips to the vets. However, the point that i was making was, most people, even those with the best stock care in the world, very rarely rush any animal to the vets as soon as it appears a little under the weather. Obviously if you come out and your dog / ferret (whatever) is looking in obvious pain, or just fecked, then you rush it in, however, when they go a bit quiet and mopey, or go off their food etc, most of us i'm sure, would decide to moniter it over night / for a day, and then see, if it didnt change or got worse, we would take them in, but if they appeared to be perking up i'm sure most would leave them.

Like if my kid was throwing up one night, i wouldnt rush them into the doctors or hospital, if they were still sick the next day then i would probably get them in.

The truth is very few vets know alot about ferrets and there needs and some owners know alot more than some vets.

But after training vets know a awful lot more than most of us in terms of medical needs and potential causes of illness like the one reported here.

Yes vets know how to charge and the end of the day we can give advice and knowledge but with seeing the ferret the advice can be as much use as a choclate fireguard to poor critter who has now died .

Is it your fault it has died maybe and maybe not. we cant judge over the internet but your post depicts not a cruel owner who is tight but a owner who is not switched on to knowing when to take the ferret to vets as clearly the ferret from your post was not just under the weather as some have surgested but very very unwell and needing medical treatment be it antibotics or a jab to be to sleep .

Hope this comes across in postive way for you and others in deciding future treatment of our much underated ferret.

If it was a prized lurcher I know some members would have diffrent responce to saying leave it for a few days.

He said there was fluid in the animals back end. Well anyone in their right mind knows that fluid usually will not go away on its own.

Wasnt a case of the ferret was looking abit under the weather.

If this fluid suddenly appeared overnight hen obviously theres something wrong isnt rocket science.

Too late to discuss it, animal died. Probably suffered.
