Lab xs are good hardy dogs mate had one in the 80s what a dog great for everything .As far as nose goes wouldnt have a lurcher that never put its nose to the ground great to see a lurcher work .As far

Always thought it would be a cracking x. Anyone want to try it then look no further i have the very stud here. All you can ask and more!!...............

That dog was the only one I came across, as I said his pups was nothing special fast but short of stamina, a lined him to another bitch, but nothing to talk of, he was so intelligent, you had to see

Nowdays as iv said before Coursing Greyhounds imo are Too Big 90-100 lbs to be putting over any bitch to Produce lurcher types.

A better way to go is to use 6-8 bend Greyhounds that were at the top of there Game unless you can find a real well bred Coursing bred Greyhound bitch around the 60-64 lbs mark then put a lab , springer or whatever over her.

the dogs we used were about 26" + around 65lb/70lb, for me a dog around 26" was what we were looking for, go back to Cotton King,

my first bred by accident, my uncle had a first class working hill collie bitch, we lived a couple of hundred yards from the trainer and part owner the Late Mr, Hardie wright, the King got out of his kennel and run, and mated the collie bitch, who was bang in season thats why she was tyed up in the wee byre, and I begged my granny to keep the black dog pup for me, that was my first Lurcher, and he matured and progressed into a fine working dog,(((( but not as good as the 3/4 grey 1/4 lab, he had more drive up to his quarry, both dogs had great strikes, on them,

No probs....just taken an interest in this thread as Labs are mentioned. Usually getting a slagging but its nice to hear that they have/could potentially have a use in the running dog world..

why put a primarily scent hunting dog into a sighthound breeding :hmm: :hmm:

Surely you could ask a similar question about the collie but advantages could be good feet and a thicker set leg, temperment, brains and obviously retrieving abilities would be good... A good nose in anyone hunting up could be a serious advantage... :hmm:

Have lurchrs gone so far downhill that scenting ability is no longer sought after, I think a Lab has a lot more to offer than just its scenting ability, I remember 1 a very very long time ago used as a terriermans dog for bolters and awkward customers at the end of the dig, he was a lot better at his job than a lot of the bull xs that are about today

i here you mate BUT maybe be to much nose for lamping etc :hmm: for a general mooching/bushing dog then yes id say they be top of their game, but as alrounders :hmm:
