moonlighter 1,164
What I'm saying is, my mate has a cracking back lab bitch. Lean and works like a springer. I'd put my lurcher dog over her in a flash. If a pup took my fancy I'd say it would make a cracking lurcher. But would I let him put his male lab over my coursing bitch, and be stuck with a dozen lab Xs....no chance! Quote Link to post
2.8 guy 403
I will be breading some lab xs in the near futer my mate has a very nice stamp of a lab in build well bred and earning its title as a respectable worker, i looked into the lab as a breed and was suprised to find that 70 % of the worlds genral perpose dogs was the labrador so thats genral assist dogs, blind, deaf, search dogs, drugs and cash also BOMBS in disposal uses so the way i look at it is if you need to trust a dog with your life count on a lab, oh and there gun dogs too, The people who i have spoke too about lab lurchers all say was fair, some say the best they have seen but for me the proof will be in the pudding Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
An interesting cross i think, a good lightweight lab with high prey drive could be a good sire, without trying to drift off at a tangent didn't Don Southerd start his coursing lines based on a springerxgrey??? Quote Link to post
2.8 guy 403
mine will be lab greyhound the lab being the sire, so they will be half cross, the dog is two years and is very well mannered and is proving itself in the field ill give it a while longer to make sure then will be on the look out for a greyhound bitch Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Yeah I heard that Simmo but I wouldn't know if there was any truth to it? ATB Andy Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
An old boy who used to live near me run a lab x 30 odd years ago, he was a proper old countryman, and did alot of netting, he swore by them. But its down to the quality of stock used as always in lurchers ;-) Quote Link to post

But its down to the quality of stock used as always in lurchers ;-) The majority of ones i've heard of are from the 70's and early 's so perhaps there was more around back then? Once again arises the question why did they phase out because we are still to hear of a bad report about one? ATB Andy. Quote Link to post
countrymon 52
intresting thread, i have been hunting with a mate who has a half cross bitch, for the last 2 seasons , very racy animal, jumps like a stag, natural retriever, very game bitch, his father had this cross in the 70s as i recall and that bitch was a good un aswell . His looks to me as if it has thrown more after the greyhound in shape and size. Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,327
Just a quick question Countrymon if you please? What's the stamina like on your mates bitch? Yet again we hear of another with credit aplenty? ATB Andy Quote Link to post
