Dont want to hijack the thread but my jill gave birth sunday i had a quick look in the seperate lid on nest box and counted about 8. Ive had another look today and theres just 1 kit left alive and 1 left dead in the nest. has anyone any ideas why. Iv hardly disturbed them and definatley not touched them.

my jill had 13 last thursday, had a look a couple of times all seems well. been givin her a good mix of titbit type foods steak, cheese, prawns and a bowl of milk which she seems well into, doesnt seem to be bothered about her dry food too much. wonder why?lol seems to be woteva she can inhale quickest and straight back to the nest. would she hav killed any by now if she was going to? any tips on what problems mite occur would be great as this is the 1st litter we've had.

Just stick to the biscuits, if shes hungry then she'll eat them. Try and stay away from any milk or cheese as ferrets are lactose intolerant and struggle to digest dairy products. I sometimes feed mine a bit of rabbit, but not in big amounts so they don't go and store it in the nest box, where it will go off.

broomball replace the cheese with rabbit, mince and chicken legs or thighs and replace the milk with raw egg beat up give the egg till her about 2 0r 3 times a week and as some of the lads have already said leave the dry mix in with her she will eat it when shes hungry atb with them

cheers, i changed to kitten milk to help jill as these kits have got big quick, iv also been givin her rabbit, chicken, eggs, fish . iv been feedin half the kits a plate of the milk while jill fed the other half then swapped, she seemed grateful for the help, all the kits hav now started eatin the same solids as jill i hav been wetting the ferret food on the plate and they come out to get it. they have all opened at least 1 eye each now and are becoming slightly adventurous jill decided to swap hutches the other day so i just let her, it gave me a chance to clean her nest box out which i hadnt done for over a month(it was minging). then she decided she liked the shed better, so she had to be stopped. iv put a feed on here 'ferret kits northumberland' if anyone is wanting a new member or two. they will be ready start to middle of july, they're 5 weeks today. im not wanting anything for the kits jus good honest homes.please check the feed for more info.

cheers john
