SkinnyMan 11
Well we braved the weather today and went out on my second fishing outing of the year and wow it was COLD Went to a place called Manor in Garstang with my mate and his Dad, this was the first time i was going to be using my pole so i was pretty excited. Set off about 6:20am and arrived at the pond at about 7am. There are 3 ponds here, number one is the match one so we had the choice of number 2 or 3 so we decided with 3 as we always seem to go on two. Having never fished much with a pole before, i never relised how quickly it is to set up and it didnt take long for me to be in the water and the first fish was in with in minutes a tiny roach! Float was straight back in and it didnt take long for it to go under again but this time my elastic shot out and i find myself fumbling round trying to put more sections on the pole to keep it away from the reeds, a good little run and i eventually land my first carp of the season, struggled landing it on my own, much to the amusement of mate on the peg next to me By now the heavens had opened and the wind began blowing us about and the lid of my maggot box into the water So up went the brollys and we battled through it! I was pulling some decent roach and skimmers out all day and then my float shot under and the elastic fired out again, this one felt a world beater (to me anyway) i got it out into the open, tired it out and landed it and it was cracker by my standards, my best infact! Weighed it and it was 7.5lbs, ive never had any luck with carp in the short time ive been fishing so i was over the moon! The weather now started getting really bad by now so we said we would give it another hour or so and then we was packing up, even though my peg was fishing reasonably well, even started pulling some tiny perch out now! The hour went and i missed two more carp, one even jumped out the water like a trout which ive never seen before Then just as everyone was packing up (apart from me) I hooked another carp! Another good fight and fish is landed, when i put it on the matt i noticed i had fouled-hooked it on the belly right under the fin! My mate says these dont count in our little match we was having but i was winning by now anyway I noticed its top lip was missing aswel Packed up and headed home wet and freezing, but i had a brill day, catching 20+ fish and even won the little trophy we have doing the rounds between me and my mates Everything was caught on maggot, and i was throwing in micro pellet and some ruby murry pellets aswell, which seemed to work! Anyone else brave it today! Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
:toast: nice one SM,deserve a trophy for braving the weather hard work starting on a pole in that wind the carp look nice fish, you usually find top lips missing on heavily fished waters, due to poor unhooking or being dragged through snags on heavy tackle well done mate ,dave Quote Link to post

billybaltic 308
Never fished witha pole mate, like to have a bit more control with carp, or so i think, look's like you had a good day, and the trophy is a cracker mate, good idea. Have'nt been out for carp this year only stopped pike fishing in the middle of march, nothing decent to report, will have to wait till october now for a decent pike. I will have to dust the carp gear down this weekend and try and have a day out, good luck mate. Quote Link to post
