poacher3161 1,766
Terrier work has never been my game but i was fortunate enough to grow up around some of the old boys now from s.yorks and not one of them feared handling their quarry and some find it amuseing the title of the terriermans lurcher to do something that some are afraid to do. 5 Quote Link to post

MOO 730
It is easy enough just grab it before you either let it run or dispatch it ....This is a trick I learned from an old lad that had dug and handled many foxes over the years is to stick a finger in its cheeck what he called fish hooking it causes the fox no harm if done gentley but firm but it calms the animal down ....some foxes will just stay still but you get some real frisky criitters that will twist and turn on you but if you fish hook them it calms them down straight away .....he said always do it on the left hand side of the fox and that seems to work best ...dont ask me why...anyone struggling to keep a fox still should give it a try Here is a real frisky vixen that was bolted to the net ...she was a real handfull but the minute she was fish hooked she calmed right down . This fox was humanely dispatched for the protection of game birds on my shoot If my memory serves me rightly it was a right fanny boy that took this pic ....eh WILF bbb sometimes its nigh impossible to shoot a fox in a hole Edited April 29, 2012 by MOO 6 Quote Link to post
