would your dog return to you mid course?

Recommended Posts

Why would any one want to stop there dog mid course

If you slip the dog you should know the land your working

So I can't see any reason anyone would stop there

Dog mid run

Well, you might want to try if your dog is coursing towards a train line, main road or perhaps a small pet dog or cat.............it has been known to happen.

Thats happened to me before and at the time i wish i could call him off, fortunately he missed the train by about 30 secs

You can train half collie crosses to stop befor the course gets going properly ,which isnt a bad thing considering what they are generaly used for.But a coursing dog you would have no chance,if you could it wouldnt be worth a carrot! Imagine you was running a match and one of the other side had a whistle !!!

If a dog can be stopped in mid flight, then either 1 the owner is a great trainer of dogs or 2 the dogs heart is not in it in the first place.

The makeup of the dog is a major factor there is no doubting that, I would hazard a guess that the people saying their able to stop their dogs mid flight have collie or some other strong baseline saturated dogs. Give the same men a pure sighthound or a mix of sighthounds and see how they fare, not so well I wouldn't think.

I can tell if theres anything about and what it is by my dogs behaviour. If they walk quickly with their noses to the ground, checking each bush i know its rabbits. If there franticly casting about i know its deer. I also know at that point i have about 10 seconds to get them to me and the leads on otherwise there WILL be a dead dear for me to pretend i know nothing about! Lol! If i shout loud enough AND walk quickly away from the area they DO follow me. Then the leads go on and i get them out of the area. If the deer gets up and runs it gets taken down, simples. I cant stop them once there sighted. If it keeps its head down, which they usually do (AND im on the ball) i always manage to get the leads on in time.

If its rabbits i am more likely to encourage them. Theres not many hares where i walk my lot so there easily avoided. Same with foxes, you see um at night but the dogs are on slip then anyway so all i have to do is not let go of the lead.

i seen a dog being stopped going down the beam at a squatter which the dog had past an it stopped dead an returned scanning the ground an killed it.....an iv seen it doing it more than once

Stopping a dog walking down the beam is no comparison to stopping a dog mid flight.
