Simoman 110
Interesting one, i can safely say i dont think i have a chance of calling mine off once there running, BUT i think it could be a very handy as sometimes things crop up in the field, i have never tried it with a lurcher but i think i could drum it into them, but i wont. My manwork dogs were very very high drive and could be called off a bite 9 times out of 10 but this was often required in competition and they only way to acheive it with many of them was using an electric collar. As i said, i believe it can be done but requires a lot of hard work and its not something i will insist on......... Quote Link to post
seang 163
not a hope would mine it would be handy though but as long as their recall after there finished chasing is good that do me Quote Link to post

gnipper 6,487
To be honest, i have enough trouble getting my dog to hear my voice when he is in even vague proximity to game, let a lone, once it's sighted. Although its a good test,if he has his noseto the ground and totally ignoresme when i call him, chances are within the next 5 mns you will see a run. But once it's up, he just completely goes deaf and dumb to anything else. Only dogs i could imagne being able to do it without it hidering would be collie x's. I'm sure it could be done, but only to the detrement of the dogs working ability, as it will always ben half waiting to hear the command to stop. If that makes sense? Sounds like the whippet I had, it wasn't good if you were out somewhere a bit hot and the dog decides its off hunting. A dog that can be called off would be handy imo too, like a terrier that can be called out but if you don't call it will stay till dug to. Quote Link to post
