liongeorge 7
I was asked a year ago to sort the rabbits out on a 300 acre ex mod site that was heaving in rabbits. I was chuffed to bits and got stuck in heavily over the summer with the HMR shooting over 600 then this winter ferreting nearly every weekend (another 300+) concentrating on the more difficult to shoot areas.I have even kept right on with the ferrets till now. The rabbit population is much reduced and the owner is generally happy but there are certain places( particularly around where he lives) where there are some deep open burries that i repeatedly ferret and the rabbits still seem to remain or return. he now wants to get a rodenator to do a 'propper' job (his words) , he is a bit of a full on character and difficult to talk to. I really don't want this to happen for many reasons. What reasons can I give against them? he won't listen to humane arguments. Do they actually work on deep chalk burries? The one 8,507
For your problem burrows try a bucket full of creosote and crumple up papers or the cones from a scots pine soak them in the creosote and put them in all the holes except one ,and the rabbits should move out into easier burrows ,i use this and put a line of snares out . But if hes got it into his head mate what can you do there a fair lump of cash but haven't the burrows to be cleared first ?so your going to have to ferret them first ?. Quote Link to post

The one 8,507
Im thinking the weather must be calm the soil type's got to have a lot to do with it so its limited in its use so how can it compete with a boy ferreting for free ?. Quote Link to post
