I know pups should be jabbed at 8 weeks but has anyone done it younger? any good medical reasons not to?

had mine done at 8weeks,heard someting about injections would be wasted on anything younger because

of the bitches immune system via the milk,i may have not worded this right, but have a look through some posts on here or smoochers, pretty sure that's where i read it,

Higgins.

Chubber; Acting on bang up to date information mate, I don't let a white coat near my pups till they're Fifteen Weeks old. Prior to That age the maternal anti bodies can still over power the initial jab.

I then leave it the usual ten days, couple of weeks. Get a second jab and go home. Dog never sees another jab for the rest of it's life. Had a Dog die of a jab. Never had one die because it wasn't stuck with a " Booster " every year of it's days.

I posted the latest and relevent data doccumentation on Mouchers a couple of years ago, only most people simply scoffed and refused to even look at it on the basis that they 'Already know all about vaccinations, thankyou.' Probably hence the continuation of todays prevailing ignorance on the subject?

Still, I take care of my Dogs as I do. Other peoples Dogs are other peoples problems.

Oh; And if anyone thinks holding a pup back till the age I do will f*ck up it's socialisation? They really haven't met my Small Dog!

This is my understanding of it .

As said the bitches immume system will cover the pup via colostrum,FOR THE FIRST 8 WEEKS ONLY .Jabbing a pup any younger is a waste of time as providing the bitch was jabbed the antibodies in the milk will fend off the introduced culture in the jab .

After 8 weeks the pup is then at the mercy from anything it comes into contact with .Also ,the colostrum only contains anti-bodies of diseases that the bitch has been in contact with ,so if the bitch wasnt jabbed then that could be a lot or very little ?.The pup should be kept indoors or only mix with dogs that are jabbed ,until it is 10 weeks old when it is deemed strong enough to cope with the jabs .Whats in the jab depends on where in the country you are but the lepto is standard throughout and requires a second booster ,2 weeks later to fully immunise the dog .Jabbing an older pup still has the desired effect but you run the risk of it catching something before hand .Hope this is clear .

That Lepto jab. Despite our Ossie's repeated claims to the contrary, it's widely reported to cover only two strains of Lepto. There being more like 102 strains out there. It also lasts 3 months.

I was explaining all that to a friend a while ago. Then, a week or two later, the November issue of " Dogs Today " magazine hit the presses; And stated, in print and at some length, exactly what I'd been telling him. With citations, naturally.

Never mind. This is an eternal debate ~ just wait till Dawn B finds this and starts handbagging our collective heads!

right o, appreciate the replys people. i can't leave a pup till 15 week it's too long & risky as there are other dogs here that go out of day & could be walking anyting in to the house.

What i've just read is pretty much how i understood it BUT if the pup is not with the bitch i.e she's been sold at 6 week is she still carrying that immunity or does it need to be feeding from her?

Dont know what you mean Ditchy!! :D

My opinion is after 8 weeks, my latest pup was done at 9 and 11 weeks. Some vaccine manufatcurers state their vaccines are safe at 6 weeks other vary. i only ever have puppy jabs nothing after that.

Dawn.

When I had my pups jabbed I was informed the the second jab should be minimum of 2 weeks after the 1st one & also that the pups must be 10 weeks or older for the second one - & then to wait one more week before taking them out.

My apologies for my mistake there, Ossie. It wasn't the number of strains, was it. It was the time it was supposed to last. I'll not compound my mistake now by trying to remember (Guess) how long ye said that vet of yours said her Lepto jabs lasted ~ perhaps you could remind us? ~ but twice ye mentioned it on this forum. Twice I asked ye to get the details. I'm only interested on the simple basis that the whole issue of vaccinations is of great interest to me.

Foxdrops; That's exactly what that huge PDF of official doccumentation I offered was about, mate. It was from the governing body of the US vetinarians. (Our vet's tend to use US liseanced jabs) It was basicly a hands up job. It stated that the vetinary profession, as a whole, was working on the basis of fifty year old information and applying it to bang up to date vaccines.

In a nut shell ~ though it was an exhaustive and fasinating read. Took me about three days to get through it and digest it! :icon_eek: ~ it was saying that, with the modern jabs, there is no need for " Booster " jabs. Period. They'd been jabbing Dogs and watching them for up to twelve years old. They gave up at that age because, well; If the f*kka's hadn't rolled over with Distemper, Parvo or god knows what by that age ....?

Went into all the differant vaccine types. Bloody fasinating read. Aimed at vet's, after all. I believe it was a leak job ;)

Bottom line was that they were telling the vets to just give the first two shots and then kiss that flash motors payments goodbye. Or thay they could string the owners out, on the basis that they were selling 'Boosters' on a 'Peace of mind and reassurance' basis. Left it down to their individual conciounces, see?

More interesting still is how uk vets. shortly after this little beauty hit the fan, started trying to bang out Bordatella jabs! My local c*** wanted my pup jabbed, Bordatella jabbed, mutilated and is gleefully expecting me back for boosters for the rest of the Dogs life?! F*cking wake up and smell the coffee, that one can! This is the modern world and we have the power of the internet! All things being equell, that's the last she'll ever see of my " JR X Pointer ", as the stupid bitch declared it must be
