I often wondered what a gsd x whippet or gsd lurcher x whippet would be like for smaller legal stuff.

I know heart of Wales mentioned crossing his with a whippet but he don't come on here now.

There was a Dorset scrapyard worker when I was a kid had a dog you would sworn was a whippet x gsd it was a rescue but it would round his poultry up for him in the evenings.

Only tiny dog though but same look as a shepherd.

i would say if one wants a running hound on her saluki x grey we bred some up here to alli xs but hey looks mean nought and certain jobs when done in numbers require more than racy type an fifty pounds his light for some jobs . coursing dog ova her will give thee betta chance for day and night but hey i would say counts for all base bred bitches , buck could throw totally the opposite and razamataz has his sire who knows , one thing for sure he bred very nice .. PERHAPS ITS ME AND LOVE THE CURS LOOKS IMATERIAL, i may even contemplate using him ova jaz who knows put the vigour back ,and we may have something tasty for man or beast lol.atb bunnys.

big dogs end up with injury's have a job putting the brakes on and my gsd x grey is 72lb hes never had a problem on game never had an injury only when he got an infection in his leg to me size dosent matter if the dogs got a good hart for the job he will do the job in hand atb malc

I've got the two brothers of bucks down here too with mates one taller but lighter framed id say looking at photos and one pretty much the stamp of my bitch

A long time since I've been on this forum , great to see all the gsd x's , this thread has been a great read.
I'm still happily working mine down here in NZ , I have Zappa (29.5') a 1/2 x , Dweezil (31.5") and Becca(27") both 3/4 grey 1/4 gsd out of Zappa to a track greyhound (27"no coursing dogs in NZ) Dweezil just forgot to stop growing. I also work a pure bred white gsd and a terrier beagle x foxy. I'm also bringing on a 2nd white gsd comptemplating on what to use her for, I have the idea to train her up as a feral cat detection dog , still thinking on that one.
The 3/4's are about 4 yr old Zappa is knocking 10 and still out and about, although nothing like he used to be , his back legs are getting a bit wonky , but he can still manage a day or to pushing about in cover running the odd bunny and getting in a retrieve. For me the 1/2 cross suits me best , more versatile than the 3/4's in my mind .

Heeeeps of oppurtunity for the dogs down here I could take Zappa out and he would hunt up and catch, retrieve shot bunnies and wallabies, catch a pig (small ones ) work them out of cover, find goats , he'd work with the lamp, and kept going day and night, the thing that buggered him up most was heat.He did'nt excel at everything but sure as hell done his best. I can't complain with how he's worked, all 74 lbs of him when he was in his prime. He would suffer in the summer sun down here , with his thick coat, as do most dogs though . We work the dogs all year round no seasons all mammals are classed as pests in NZ. So its up and out early in the summer or use the gun and get dogs to retrieve, something the 3/4's just don't want to do.

after an evening on the lamp , with Becca , Dweezil , The Whip, and 2 terriers and the terriers come with us sometimes when lamping, they find and push the bunnies out of the scrub , tussock etc. We ended up with double what we have here.

Becca at about 15 wks, training on her 1st day out , they were both out wandering the fields from this age, a different approach of waiting until they are 12 - 18 months old. One of the other dogs had caught this one .

Zappa took the small pig about 15lbs, pushed the other out of cover I shot at it and thought I'd missed , he found it later in the scrub - dead, the goats he would find in the scrub when shot.

The Team , the Whip my mates dog what a little demon on rabbits hares and possum , him and Zappa would work well together .

the 3/4's took these at about 14 months old and I dare say they would have gone on longer if I had not called it a night , they took their 1st daytime hare at 9 months old,( Its arse was a bit bruised from a bit of my mates shotgun shot just to help them) , and yes I realise they were young to be chasing hares maybe, but they done it no problem. Dweezil has a huge stride on him and did at that young age and for a big dog he manages the bunnies well , when were working cover in the day he always seems to be in the right place at the right time and certainly throws himself about . I reckon it's his ear brakes that help him !
