.22lr or fac airrifle for hunting small vermin?

Recommended Posts

I have many rifles from hmr17 to a 303, my choice of weapon for rabbits and smaller game though believe it or not is most definitely my rws.22 pcp. It's more accurate in every range from 10 to 90 yrds plus over the year I save litterely hundreds of pounds. Plus having the knowledge of being able to increase and decrease them allows ferrol pigeon assaults without fear of damaging barns etc. Personally I think rimfires are for nothing better than filling a space in a cabinet.

ok until your on the back of a truck for the night bunny bashing and you have to keep refilling the cylinder,

Hahahaaaaa smile! Just a bit. But hey it's a forum for chat opinions and making new friends or not as the case may be......

Yeah your bang on carrying a cylinder is a bit of a bummer but you do need one especially up round the 30ftp mark it gobbles it up a bit. It's not so bad on a steady stroll because I use the pump. But not Everything in life is perfect hey.

I have an rws rapier.22 not sure what it'll go up to but I find it runs best and most accurate at approx 30ftb. It's not variable as such I have to change transfer ports etc.

I also have a shinsung I paid a whole bunch for and am informed that'll go up round the 50/60 mark but haven't fired it not once it's just a collectable of mine really amongst a few old springers. I'll get some stick later because the rws and kit was what I tried to sell on here so you can only imagine what's going to be said. But basically feel like a change that's all maybe an airarms or something like that but not to new I like guns I can tune myself.

Now this may well be a load of rubbish, but I'm looking at sending in my application at some point in the near(ish) future and am debating as to what slots to apply for and I think that I could have a use for an FAC air, and im sure ive heard somewhere that with FAC air it is slightly differently then other firearms in that you dont have a closed ticket, and so land doesnt need to be checked beforehand. Now as I said this may be a load of rubbish but thought i'd take the oppurtunity to ask now

mine came through as an open ticket but i already had an open ticket on larger calibres  they do have there uses mate, i only got mine for doing the rabbits on a small stud farm as the 22lr or 17hmr was not an option due to posibility of a ricochet and noise. now thats in the process of being sold and the new owner has his own pest control.

I have an FAC air plus a standard springer, but I will always use 22lr or 17hmr where circumstances permit, because they have more umph and dispatch more reliably. When you are out to do a job of vermin control you need to do it efficiently. What is the point of having a weapon out of your cabinet that is good to 60 yds when up pops a critter at 110yrds. Need to get the job done and not continually regret lost opportunities.

I must say I don't do much pest controlling mainly Just sport, but it's the hmr I use when in that situation everytime. For the short gain in distance and obiously the cost in round I stay away from the .22 I'm not a big fan to be honest mine hardly ever leaves the cabinet.
