Tiny 7 1,694
To be honest seen some good bullx's, Two stand out over the rest 3/4 and a straight half. Both were good dog at there job... IMO i think Bull X's benift from a touch of Sal in the mix but thats for my own prefrence and type of work and land i hunt on, I know a few lads that keep Bull x's and weaten/bull types and they wouldnt put nothing into there own dogs apart from the same way bred types back across them (And as close as they'll dare), As they are after only a couple of types of quarry (Well since its only rats and rabbits theses day anyway) at most and they dont feel the need too add Sal/Collie/Whippet or what ever X into there dogs as dont want too lose exactly what the bull x's bring too there dog for the sake of a bit of wind/feet off the Sal and lose abit of fire (in theory) from doing so as that wouldnt suit the quarry there after, Most peolpe that get firstx's 2gen and so on choose that type for a reason (Or atleast they should do) as it suits them and there work type... But for me i like a splash of Saluki.... good answer, i can see what you mean by wanting to keep a good lump of bull in the mix with other lads, and ive always think if you going to put the bull in or what ever the base line (what ever the breed) then put enough in there .? Prob a 1x bullx grey to a coursing dog then back to 1x bull xgrey, so you still keep enough bull in there for its tenacity = guts+power Yes Bird something like that, People keep dogs that suit them, My two here are lucky if there 1/8 th and my dog you'll be luck if theres even a 16th Bull in them from a good few gen back iv no need for any more Bull in my own dogs as they suit me my for a bit of rabbit bashing/ferreting/moochen ect, Same as a few lads i know they keep what suits them, NONE of mine could do what there's do and same can be said for theres but yet at there own tasks they excell.... 3 Quote Link to post
mushroom 13,203
Some of the best dogs I have seen have had bull in the mix but never F1. One of the best dogs I had the pleasure to watch is owned by a chap on here a SalxBullxGrey. When I used to go out with him that dog was a machine, probably still is. Quote Link to post
redcharge 378
So the general concensus seems to be Saluki/Bull/Grey is the way forward............. Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,301
So the general concensus seems to be Saluki/Bull/Grey is the way forward............. if the saluki stamina was to come in the cross all the time it would be the perfect x for large game ,but i have seen this x with the shy flightieness of the saluki and the power of the bull that where nasty b@stard with people and dogs ,they could be a ticking time bomb. i could be completely wrong but i find most bull xs have a friendly manner but most salukis are shy with strangers Quote Link to post
Guest vin
CN's buddy would make for an interesting mix. Or maybe one of them Mal X Grey ? depends what you want for yourself.. iether of them dogs could add something yours lack and and visa versa etc etc. Quote Link to post
Gawillz 14
the only way to make a bullx better is to cross it with a better line of bullx.. in my opinion if u add saluki, wippet, deerhound its no longer classed as a bullx to me i would call that a lurcher btw thats just my opinion Quote Link to post
