Read your original question mate, though this last post don't make sense to me, Producing better bull crosses... blah de blah etc.. You know that..!

It's only my opinion but you can't produce a better bull cross than a good second generation first cross, especially if the blood is tight. What I think your askin is, what would be the better cross after it.. Or, where do we go from there..??

Well if ya ain't, or don't want, to stick with those halfs and maybe need a bit more speed, then i'd go lurcher to lurcher bred dog before any greyhound. I've posted on this a few times, before i'd look to any greyhound for 3/4 breds (an I've never seen a good 'un..!!), i'd look to a line bred coursin lurcher, the match type, dogs thatbreed true to type and kill for a living.

Funny but an old thred just came up, Bull/ Minshaws. Well, back when bulls were new and Minshaws were 'giving way' to the new boys as the (new craze!) fox dogs, a few litters between the two were bred, i remember 'em and the keen lads that ran 'em, I owned two myself, never seen or heard of a bad 'un but even these eventually gave way to the bull crosses and as I posted that was/is a damn shame!

The way I see it, is that although i've never 'seen' a 3/4 I like (an I've owned three!), i've seen much more from dogs bred out of 'half crosses to line bred lurchers' and i'm certainly not knocking anyone elses dog or cross, just my opinions...

good thread , i think maybe drop of whippet or as you say coursing blood, might not be a bad thing. Drop the size a bit and better wind put into the bullx , as on a hard long night tenacity not enough on its own .!

Half asleep and trying to type it out on a shit phone bosun lol, personaly mate I dont think 2nd gen etc aint the finished article and believe theres better bull x's out there with say a touch of suluki, whippet as mad as it sounds, or even minshaw as you say. I'm not saying half x's are no good as. I know theres some top class dogs and bitches out there. I remeber all terrain telling me about a bullx bitch he had that he put back to the best fox dog he could find and that was a collie x if my memory serves me right, you'll know more than me. Or maybe i miss heard.

Maybe your dead right mate, 2nd gens ain't everyones cuppa but brought on right and from the right stuff, I like 'em but it's only my opinion.

I suppose its all about what you want from a dog. As I said, 'my' next step would be to look to lurcher to lurcher bred dogs, not purebreds....

would you class a bull whippet grey x bull grey, a bull x or a lurcher bosun?

A lurcher mate... Only because it ain't that all purebred in that mix, though 'the old whippet' comes in various 'guises' and is a long way removed from the breeding a greyhound has, so even these little fellas sometimes ain't all that 'purebred', if ya choose ya whippet wisely.....
