Ross91 15
I've seen pictures of these dogs a few times and quite like the look of the them, but if i be honest and hold my hands up..Have never seen one in my life. Just wondering if anybody has any experience on either owning or even better working these dogs, What are their best attributes/capabilities etc.. ? Quote Link to post

desertbred 5,490
Any hunting qualities they may have possessed have been lost overtime and the final nail is the showring fraternity with thier usual breed standards madam 2 Quote Link to post
bluecollar 104
I had a ibizan hound it looks like what u are talking about. The one I had was bred out of imports from south of Spain. Not like a normal sighthound they like to hunt for them self and will range off a lot. I hear they are what went into remaking the Pharos hound as they are a new breed not the same as the ones on the tomb walls. The ibizan hound is the oldest of this type of hound. Quote Link to post
Christian Muscat 0
Hi, I was just surfing on internet and just came across this forum topic. I am an owner of this breed in its country of origin. Its native name is 'Kelb tal-Fenek' but later after exportation of this breed outside Malta it began to be known by its fans mostly dog show owners as pharaoh hound. Their Maltese name means 'the dog of the rabbit' as they are an excellent breed for hunting rabbits on our island. to be used for hunting outside Malta I have no experience. Here we generally use a pack of dogs ranging from 2 dogs up to 8, although when I go with some friends we could end up with over 20 dogs and with a ferrets always accompanying us. Quote Link to post
