ferret100 47
As others have pointed out, different species require different protein/carb ratios. Cat kibble fed to ferts is a waste of money. The people at some pet store/pets at home are only bothered about selling, they'll pass off any old crap as quality. Use decent quality ferret kibble, otherwise pay for expensive ferret crap and piss and probably vets bills in the long term. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Why is feeding ferrets dry cat food a waste of money mate? A good pal of mine has been feeding his dry cat food at 80p a box for 10 years or more and no problems. They obviously get a rabbit every couple of days or whatever else he has, chicken wings, wood pigeon, pheasant etc. but the cat food hasn't done them any harm. They look as well as any I know. All the best. Gaz 1 Quote Link to post
joe14 98
would you feed your dog, cat food? Your rabbit, chinchilla food? Most cat food has more vegetable protein innit than meat protein that ferrets struggle to digest and can cause bladder stones. Whilst ever people say i feed my ferrets cat food etc no wonder more and more people dont realise ferret food is readily available FOR FERRETS. Ive seen ferrets fed rabbit food, carrots, museli, beans. Most important thing we all know is ferrets need meat and its obviously the best option. Edited April 26, 2012 by joe14 Quote Link to post

All the best. Gaz Main reason is the short digestive tract of ferrets, dog/cat dry food is designed to be absorbed at a rate appropriate to the species. Cat food simply passes through a ferret quicker than a ferret can properly digest it. So, if the food is mainly undigested, it's a waste of money. Atb. Quote Link to post
sam007 34
Mine get fed mainly on meat but they always have a bowl of cat biscuit in the court. I feed minced chichen, rabbit, trout ,chicks and what ever meat is left in the kitchen I believe in a varied diet . I use the biscuit mainly as a filler . Quote Link to post
