recommended minimum size for kennel/run

I have just moved into my new house and need to build new kennels and runs, one for a small lurcher and one for a terrier.

I have them kennelled at my other house and they each have a 10ft x 4.5ft run plus a bedding box.

 

My fiancee wants them to be housed in as small a kennel/run set up as possible , maybe shoebox size lol?

 

She just doesnt understand that the dogs need a bit of freedom, so can you please give your opinions for her to read?

 

The garden is approx 100m² so is plenty big enough.

iv got to sets of four mate my big dogs av runs that are 8ft by 4ft and in side is 4ft by 4ft and thats where they sleep and the terriers are 2meters by 1 meters with drums in to sleep in and all got a roof on it is that ok for you mate

mine have 6 x 3 kennels with raised bedboards and 16 x 6 runs. if you build it to small you will be rebuilding soon enough.

Easier said than done in my house

 

I have just laid the concrete base for a 10' x 4' kennel and run for our new Patterdale pup. Admitedly I would have liked a slightly bigger one, and it probably wouldnt be big enough for a large lurcher.

 

Still, its better than just chaining it up outside to a wooden barrel, which is what I was initially going to do.

 

The wife wants to fit heating!!
