Goats again

Recommended Posts

What are your dogs like with sheep pal after they have tracked goats................ :hmm:

Good question redcharge.

I went out a few times with local lads, old blokes. They wanted to show me this dog, after a knight in the pub [collie/gray half cross]

On the third knight, they slipped the dog on a fox,f**k me i wasnt able to get back into the van, with the laughing.I walked home lol.

Smart old fox,ran past a donkey in the middle of the field the dog didnt know what to do.

The dogs were sick of eating donkey for a good while after that lol

Suppose so long as you have educated them right they'd be ok?? seen plenty of dogs track wounded deer but the same dogs wouldnt look at a sheep twice or are goats too much like sheep for a dog to distinguish between the two???? :hmm:

Dont know,i have a few sheep,i walk the dogs around them at lambing time.

Sheep are very good mothers, they dont take any shit.My dogs dont give them a second glance after that.

Good stuff ;) You must put alot of time into them to get them so steady, my own dogs are all spot on with all live stock but my arse would be twitching walking them through a field of sheep after i'd been tracking goats with them..............

in a previous post you can see the red dog coursing the herd of goats and three days later I went into the sheep just to check he was not geting any ideas and I have to admit I was a bit nervy, thankfully even when the lambs were runing about he didnt look twice at them.It was a load off my mind I have to admit.I am going to take him amongst the sheep for the whole summer now as were finished runing the dog as the goats head up high into the hills. It'll be me and the kelpie and the rifle from now on.By next winter the dogs will have the ''NO SHEEP CHASING'' reinforced again to the hilt.

I had no delivery of chicken this week or last week, must be scarce so I thought Id go get some fresh grub for the mutts, young lad and I headed off and hit the place early. We walked the usual routes but no sign of them, then we walked the unusual routes and we still saw Flock all :toast: (good or what?)3 and 1/2 hrs later I was slightly peed off as I needed the meat for the mutts. We chated to the farmer when we got back to the yard and he told us''THEY WERE THERE YESTERDAY EVENING MUNCHING ON MY GRASS'' ferkin typical. So we jumped in the van and accepted defeat AGAIN.We have our fair share of blank days too I'll tell ye.I let the young fella drive the van for a bit cause he thinks hes Michael ferkin Schumaker,we drive down the lane onto the ''main road''(now thats a laugh) and we venture on with me giving the pilot a few little gentle pointers as to how he might improve his driving.all in all though he was doing great.....................UNTIL I left a roar''STOP THE VAN,STOP THE FURKIN VAN''.he hit the brakes with a force that almost put the 2 of us outside the van looking in,''WHAT DID I DO WRONG'' he yelled.''WHAT WHAT THE FURK YOU ON ABOUT'' i retorted,,Look above says I.There high on the hill were the herd.Up the road we went into the farm and got the gear, got the dogs out and I took off with such speed after a few minutes the young feller was not to be seen.I kept going and after a hell of a climb and a lot of creeping about I got into position. There was around 30 of the goats there,I first picked out a nice kid for the table.Cross on the front shoulder and pull, one down. The focus back on the herd and number two picked out a big bugger.Neck shot and down he goes.At this point the herd were on their way.No official photographer as I lost him along the way, lol.I marched my way over the high grass and did the necessary to the 2 slain. Then the kid came into view and made his way over.We had a fecker of a time geting them off the hill. The ground was covered in tussocs of high grass and hidden holes, which my young lad founfdto his dismay.Again he stuck his leg into another bog hole, lolheres what little photos we got today.
