jigsaw 11,863 Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 went out last weddnesday for a bit of dog food and after 3 hours not a sign,so I headed back to the van and on the way I saw the bitch stop and stare,which means shes seen something move.Well I froze in my tracks and tried to see what it was that had her attention.She was rigid and there sure was something there.Possibly 2 minutes passed,i couldnt see anything but still she was solid.I was thinking she must be mistaken,when from behind a ridge steped out 1 solitary nanny goat.As long as I visit this spot i have never seen one goat on its own.So slowly I slip the gun from the shoulder and off goes the safety,I put the cross hairs on the side of ots head and the shot is taken.To my disgust the goat leaps into the air and takes off down the hill and into the scrub wood.The dog is all geared up and I hold her sit position for a few minutes,I thought id let the quietness creep back in and we would have a better chance of finding and hearing the goat.I send the bitch on and she runs off in the exact direction the goat has taken.I followed on expecting to see her siting next to the now deceased goat,but when I enter the wood,no sign of either the dog or the goat.Well Im standing on the top of the cliff and I can hear some comotion but cant make out where the dog is.Shes close enough but out of sight.I walk along the edge when right next to my feet the dogs head shows.I look down and under my feet is a ledge and there lies both the dog aand goat.One is alive and one dead(you can work out which is which).If I had been alone I would never have found the ledge and it would have been a mystery as to where the goat went.Handy to have a dog with you at times. I took this photo as I got into place to shoot,here Taz has the goat under tight scrutiny. the ledge the goat ended up on.I had no way of pulling the goat up so I had to feck it off the ledge down to the base of the rock. 4 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
jigsaw 11,863 Posted April 21, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 (edited) oh yeah the strange thing I thought was,I shot the goat through the eye and it exited out the back of the head just behind the ear and it still ran over 500 yards and had the thinking power to hide down in the ledge,I was very surprised at that.The 50 euro sights are doing very well so far too thankfully. Good question redcharge.I went out a few times with local lads,old blokes.They wanted to show me this dog,after a knight in the pub [collie/gray half cross] On the third knight,they slipped the dog on a fox,f**k me i wasnt able to get back into the van,with the laughing.I walked home lol. Smart old fox,ran past a donkey in the middle of the field the dog didnt know what to do. The dogs were sick of eating donkey for a good while after that lol Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The dogs were sick of eating donkey for a good while after that lol Suppose so long as you have educated them right they'd be ok?? seen plenty of dogs track wounded deer but the same dogs wouldnt look at a sheep twice or are goats too much like sheep for a dog to distinguish between the two????
