ferret needs a boyfriend!!

Hi everyone,

 

Am in a little bit of a predicament...............my jill has come into season and having recently moved back to bristol i no longer have a means of taking her out as my friend with a vasectomised hob is on the other side of the country.

 

I have toyed with the idea of breeding her as she is the best working ferret i have ever had but i am away in the first few weeks of august and dont want to leave someone else with the responsibility of keeping an eye on a new mother and the kits that i want to keep back, also i dont want to miss out on the vital time of handling and socialising young kits.

 

i have phoned around the houses with the vets and havnt found anyone who will jill jab for less than £35!!!!! one surgery even told me that as they didnt usually stock the drug i would have to buy a whole bottle of the stuff (enough to jill jab all the ferrets in the south west by all accounts) for £ plus consultation fee at £28.50!! extortion i hear you cry

 

therefore i am sending out a cry of help too someone who lives in/near bristol who has a vasectomised hob whos services i could employ, am willing to pay, or a bottle or two of my home brew, or offer a day out ferreting on my permission in return

 

any help would be greatly appreciated,

cheers for the encouragement but i wish someone would take me up on my offer perhaps i should paint a picture of the 250 acres of permission i have just obtained with hedgerows ful of warrens that have never been ferreted.......

If you were local I would go get a ferret and get him vasectomised...

I know how yer feel mate about being quoted £35 thats what our robbing vet told us as well

It's cheaper in the long run to get a hob kitt from decent stock get him vacectomised and then work him as well it makes no difference to there working ability

what a wierd way of looking at it, I wouldn't want to lose one of my ferrets regardless of how much I'd spent on vets or whatever. My hob is castrated (around £50) and jill spayed (again, about £50 or £60)...and not once has it occurred to me that I often have over £100 down the hole at any one time. My ferts are worth more to me than a measily £100, in the same way as the £150 I paid for my mutt is negligible compared to what she means to me.

cheers for the advice, will probably pick up a working hob kit from one of this years litters and get him vasectomised for next year........ i love my home brew too, got some very nice blackberry port from last year and some mind blowing scrumpy!!!

 

have had a very kind ofer from a ferreter in cardiff but maybe a little too far affield for me so am still looking if there is anyone closer to bristol who can help??

Yes i would mate when its a big job and i need all the ferrets he goes he's here to work like the jills . And where do you get £ by the time you stick a collar on him its £120 but every time you put a ferret to ground you risk losing it and the collar but lifes a risk
