Check & see if the lens is in properly, i had a problem with mine last year & I had somehow cross threaded the lens just slightly , took me ages to get the dam thing out

i've had a mess about with it this morning before i ring anyone, its seems to be something to do with the lense, when i've got the 18-55mm on in AF mode it wont take pics but in MF its fine, the 90-300mm is fine in both modes,so its not as bad as first thought.

cheers hbg

Sounds like it is the AF on the lens that's the problem. A lot of cameras have the default set so that they will not take a pic if the lens hasn't locked on to the focus. It is probably not worth sending the lens in for repair. For what it would cost can probably pick up something better off ebay, or use it manually.

did error code come up??

maybe needs new shutter..

how many shots camera taken..

to check how many,,,,google,, eoscount...

the camera is fine with my other lens on,its the AF setting on the 18-55 lens thats the problem.

Yn's suggestion to clean the contacts is worth a try - very gently with soft cloth and maybe a tiny dab of lens cleaner (if it is a suitable one) Some people recommend using a pencil eraser, but only use a very light touch... You usually get an error code with a contact problem though.

I presume you've tried flicking the AF switch back and forth a few times, putting a freshly charged battery in, throwing the lens at the dog, etc...?

With the 18-55 kit lenses there seems to be faults with them, mine doesn't work correctly in auto,

it will auto focus if i turn it one way but not the other,

nothing wrong with manual mode on it and for the price of them not worth fixing.
