Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Badger. Did you clean your new barrel before you started testing pellets and groupings again? If not, give it a good pull through and try again after cleaning. 1 Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
I'm with Bill.... Give the barrel a good clean first then try again Darryl Quote Link to post
Water Badger 26
why clean the barrel I have never cleaned the theoben and bought it in 1999 ? dont get the wrong idear I aprecieate the feed back I clean my 308 once a year it makes ir worse for a bit ! Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
you clean the barrel so every new "type" of pellet creates its own "trail" Each and every pellet has a different hardness and some will leave debris in the barrel, using different types/makes of pellet will from time to time "grab that debris from the previous "type" and cause an untold number of trajectory errors. Hence cleaning the barrel to remove the debris and then "leading" it up with the same type you are going to use. Your 308 will be suffering the same thing until the barrel is re-suited to the round you are using it will act unfamiliar Darryl Quote Link to post
Water Badger 26
ok makes sense do you think its worth this tench looking at the gun ? in your experience what pellets are prefered by ultras ? regards Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
I would exhaust everything possible before sending the gun away mate if Im honest. Each air rifle will react differently to different pellets....start off with the usual types, AA Field, JSB Exact, RWS Superfield, Daystate Li, H&NFTT and see how you get on Darryl 1 Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Sorry if Ive mist it earlier in your post. Im not sure what calibre your Ultra is pal. If its a .177 them try JSB Exacts at 4.53mm as one of your first brands to try. Wash and lube them first. Pull your barrel through at least 3 times till its clean. Then fire about 20 to 30 pellets through the barrel to re lead it with that pellets lead properties before zeroing the rifle and pellet combo. In regards to are you asking too much of your Ultra, the answer to that is no mate. Your Ultra will produce the same accuracy as your Theoben even when your Theoben is shooting the best it can if shot correctly and matched with the correct pellet. This is not a outrageous claim either pal, they are extremely accurate rifles if filled to 190 bar and not shot more than 30 pellets before re filling. Si. Quote Link to post

Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Badger. I speak from personal experience when I say....CHECK your FTLB readings when you get your rifle back from ANY tuner. I could have been in real shite had I not checked mine, it was running at 13.4 ftlbs on its return from a so called guru. Your responsibility at the end of the day, take nothing for granted. Top advice that Bill . When I sent LJs Ultra to Phil8282 to be regged he told me that it had bedded in to 13.4 foot pounds. Now when i chronoed it last week before the meet its doing a sweet 11.2.
