Ratreeper 441
I was mooching around a small woods dicking about with my new slingshot and stumbled across this. I thought it was a bit odd and I assume it was a badger, which is interesting because the sett seemed abandoned until recently but now shows signs of activity. Am I right, or any better guesses? Ratreeper 441
thats a badger alright they crown the nests and dig straight down to them I thought so, but it is weird because it wasn't there when I walked past the first time and it was fresh and warm, so it must have killed it in broad daylight with me only a few hundred yards away. I will have to go down with a lamp and see if I can spot them, because although the setts look like they have been cleared out I am still not convinced they are living in them. (I am not going to disturb them before someone kicks off)

Tayto 52
Why would you have thought it was a badger
The one 8,485
I would have went with buzzard as well .Dont reckon a badger would nip the fur off or leave the remains ?.
kenny14 656
It's a buzzard kill - the fluff has been plucked off it by the bird OTC It's definitely a bird of prey kill. As oldtrapcollector says, the fur's been plucked off which is a dead giveaway that it's been done with a beak rather than teeth. And it's also clear that it's not the belly fur from a nest chamber. Ratreeper 441
It's a buzzard kill - the fluff has been plucked off it by the bird OTC That was my first guess (I kept birds of prey for years), but then a fox or badger would have needed to remove the remains. Which is plausible, but it seems very unlikely a buzzard could have made the kill, fed up, then a fox take the carcass in approximately an hour before I walked back. Or, I just missed it on my way past which is more likely, but it was still warm, and it wouldn't stay warm for long at all.
