Simoman 110
Buy it very occasionally but nowhere near the content of EDRD. Chalkwarren, I still have some copies of open field :yes:Whats the deal with those moustaches over the years The 'porno' moustache was an obligitory face furnishing when I worked in Denmark as a floor sweaper, body double and lighting man,.. for the 'Colour Climax' film company.... Great Days,..and Boogie Nights.... I thought Graeme Souness had developed a taste for venison Quote Link to post
bill88 6
CW is all a bit too"PC" Was a far better read years ago,the writers told it "how it was".It seems to be aimed at the Tweed jacket brigade now, each to there own,but not my idea of sport.Cheaper source's of toilet paper on the rack's Quote Link to post

Guest JDF
maybe it's just me but sometimes when i'm in a shop where it's sold i have a flick through the classifieds, very funny if some one new wanted to learn something they'd be better posting here.even if they ask something stupid and get the pish ripped out of them they'll still take more from it than that rag. Phil Lloyd 10,738
Well,.the Countryman's Weekly has been well and truly 'bitch slapped ' But,..I am curious as to just WHAT the readers would like to see in this magazine... How could it be improved upon...?... What is the main thing that folk feel is lacking..? Seriously,..if you guys had full control of the content, editorial,.etc,..what changes would you make ? I don't read this paper myself,...but might subscribe if there was more to interest a humble rabbiter... Be nice to hear some constructive views... All the best,..CHALKWARREN... Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
it's the style of writing that gets me,if i'm reading about a ferreting trip i don't want to read half a page of bullshit about what they had for breakfast or the colour of the sky that morning and then a tag line at the end to say they got nothing but it was a great day.something genuinely interesting would be nice.if i'm going to pay £1.95 for an article or two i'd like some substance. Guest little_lloyd
When i go into the post office to get a mag ill have a look through CMW if its got bollocks in it like feeding your working dog or the thumb stick then it stays on the shelf for some other unlucky sod to pick up Would rather spend my money on shooting times or airgunner I have to say i like the recipies in there :thumbs-up: Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,711
what was the one before it called sporting dog weekly?i used to buy it every friday lunchtime when at school.maybe where i was younger but it seemed more interesting than cmw today.i would like to see new interesting articles, not something reworded from last year or 2 years ago.i like the ray charles ones even though i dont stalk.and when they do overseas hunting/shooting they can be interesting ,i dont want to see an article on barf feeding or about lurchers coat or feet every time i pick one up. smallmouth 1
...I am curious as to just WHAT the readers would like to see in this magazine....Be nice to hear some constructive views... Well, a lot less articles about historical gamekeepers, playboy aristocrats, sporting estates of old, cartridge collecting, antique gun auctions or heather burning, would be a great start. There was even a double page spread about "Point to Point" the other week for fooks sake..... (I do enjoy picking the bones out of the gundog training articles though, even though it's unlikely I'll ever own a lab/springer or whatever). Seems to me that the CMW's a lot less working class than the old Shooting News was, and is the poorer for it, anyway there's enough mags catering for the CA set already.......... On the constructive side, I enjoy Simon Whiteheads writing, most of the Wanderer's script, and most of Penny Taylor's. And the sort of stuff that appears in EDRD and used to appear in Shooting News would be great. Maybe CMW couldn't print some of that content? Fair enough, doesn't matter to me if it's only about rabbits, so long as there's more well written, illustrated and credible lurcher/terrier/ferret related articles, both annecdotal or about training/working. snoopdog 1,256
maybe a few tales of the coursing days gone by before the ban ....and maybe some storys of what dogs we would be using now if the ban hadnt f****d everything up ,,...if you get my meaning ,.. more about the lurchers of today ..i know its hard to write because of the ban but theres ways round everthing ....a clever writer can get round all the implcations the people who read the mag will be able to read between the lines so to speak ...... TOMO 26,689
Well,.the Countryman's Weekly has been well and truly 'bitch slapped ' But,..I am curious as to just WHAT the readers would like to see in this magazine... I don't read this paper myself,...but might subscribe if there was more to interest a humble rabbiter... Be nice to hear some constructive views... All the best,..CHALKWARREN... STORY'S ITS THAT SIMPLE. i was in OZ and N,.Z not long back, and picked up a load of hunting related mags, some on pig hunting some shooting and genral hunting and some on bow hunting. now the one thing thay had in common was loads of stories about lads out hunting, a good few photos and they were all glossy mags. now there aint just the odd story they are full of them . and to be honest thats all i want to read about. yes a little about health and fedding from time to time but lets be honest . we all love to hunt . and thats what we should be reading about in these mags. not the fecking history of some mastive or some fecking lap dog. or two tits that talk bollox about ferreting rant over TOMO Quote Link to post
tote 856
Have got to agree with most of what's been said I find it hard going to find two articles worth reading Don't really want to read,"how to feed a lurcher"-"coat colour in a lurcher"-"what's best, smooth or rough coats?"-how to keep a rabbiting terrier fit during the summer" etc etc. Good question Chalkwarren, what do we want? I would prefer more articles about lurchers and ferrets doing what they were bred to do,work Would prefer less articles telling you how to do it and more on getting out there and actually doing it It might be worth dropping the CMW an email and letting them know what we'd prefer to read, 0 Can't do any harm. whin 463
last time i read one was when i got it free in 2004 at the waterloo cup to most of the mags in britain have run there course and you can only write so much about the same thing week in week out when youved done a lot of hunting legaly and illegaly , you look at it and well leave it on the shelf , all the best Quote Link to post
