pete123 45
Hi there just after your views on my nights lamping events. With the wife's permission to be out yet another night taking advantage of my first ever permission I was straight in the car to the field. (previously informing owner i would be there tonight) Nothing unusual pulling up to the gate, parked up rifle out lamp on and away I go slowly through the field every now and then lamp on scanning for those bunnies. The field comprises of 2 very large lakes and a wooded area. Not surprised no sight of any bunnies as this has been the pattern of late. But even more suprised to find three tents and about 10 14-16 year olds drinking on the edge of the lake. Now I know alot of us have probably camped out on a bit of land that we havnt asked first when we were kids but the drinking next to a lake is a bit dumb! surprising when there has been lots of drownings of youngsters in the paper round our area at a different lake due to drinking. I confronted them( with rifle now uncocked pointing down end my lamp removed from scope to see) amusingly they thought it was public labs and not doing anything wrong and if they had to move they would just go to another lake they know near by. This is where I was a bit hesitant on what to do, as I need to keep in owners good books but he is 75 and had recent heart problems I thought it not best to bother him tonight. Althought part of the paperwork that impressed him to let me shoot clearly stated I would inform him of any trespassers. (permission slip gained from Davy on here!) I decided to be the baddy and ring the police at the end of the day them being there could have got me in a lot of trouble if I was shooting at a rabbit with them as a unknown back drop. That and the clear fact they was under age and next to water! but still should have I rang the owner and given him the option wether to get the police involved or did I do right by letting the police deal with it and I can just inform the owner Tomorrow? I really need to keep the owner sweet as he has given me some awesome permission land Either way my lamping was out of the question tonight :-( 1 Quote Link to post

open season 21
You did the right thing bud and the owner will probably see it as taking care of his land for him but still tell him bud deffo go long way for you any respectable shooter would have done the same. After all they was trespassing, tell the owner mate no matter what. He is trusting you to help him as well REMEMBER. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
You did the right thing, but tell the landowner when you see him next. He does not need disturbing in the wee small hours, so he will be happy! Edited April 9, 2012 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Nice one Pete, SP for doing the right thing The land owner didn't need to know until you had called the police, they were breaking the law by drinking underage outside. They were endangering their lives and that gave the police the power to deal with them If they had just been trespassing the police wouldn't have bothered as that is a civil offence unless the area was clearly surrounded by high fences and locked gates (some very old law about trespassing in a courtyard then comes into play,) or they were armed in some way then it's a criminal matter. I'm a little hard line and would have drowned the lot of em given half a chance but hey thats just me and my way of doing things Tony Quote Link to post
