buzzers used correct are deadly, but i do say used correctly as most people dont know how to use them right.

If you want to catch badly then get a Sedge and flick out as far as possible and just twitch it 10 inchs or so every minute ;) always works as its what i used to teach new comers on their first attempt as getting a catch on their first try gets them hooked :D

Hi bud

buzzers are great as well as many other flies but it depends on what they are feeding on.

Just as important, if not more important, is getting the depth right. Once you've cast out count in seconds before retrieving and fish like that in an arc. If you get no joy start the arc again and let the line sink longer the next time. Once your covered all the depth ranges you can then try different flies.

Lures are great most of the time because if you get the depth right the trout can't seem to resist them as a lure triggers their attack response...a bit like a cat with a piece of string.

There's a lot to learn about reading the water and weather when you first arrive at a lake. It's always worth looking in the fishing diary (if there is one) see what lines people are using (dry, intermediate and sinkers) that will give you an idea of the depth the fish are being taken at and then have a look to see what flies are doing the damage.

I found it helped to read up on what the flies actually imitate because for ages I had no faith in buzzers...they just looked like coloured hooks to me. It was only after a particularly good day out when I found a red buzzer on the ground. I put in on my line and eventually found the right depth, 10-15 seconds with a floating line iirc. I ended up catching a fair few fish with that little buzzer.

When fishing buzzers a VERY slow retrieve is used. So slow that unless your in a big depth of water, when fishing a floater by the time youve got the line in you'll be close to if not touching the bottom. Hope this makes sense. A buzzer is an imatation of a midge pupa before hatching. Different colours work well at different times of the year and on different lakes but this early on blacks are most commonly used because they can be a good imatater for duck fly (especially if tied with 2 white wings back over the thorax). Greens will work well later on. Usually when buzzers are hatching well you'll see a tornado of flys spining round above your head. Catch 1 of these and it will give you a good idea as to what colour of buzzers are hatching. Although a red buzzer never actually hatches it can work well because as a buzzer hatches and breaks through the surface it takes in oxegen for the first time, this attaches to the hemogloben i there blood and turns them red for a second. For this reason i always fish reds on top dropper, somtimes tie them as a suspender with a polystyrene ball on the top aswell. Hope this helps. Tight lines. Mark
