milegajo 595
I went along with my partner and our two girls to a family gathering today. We took along a very small bag of goodies. I bought my eldest (8 years old) an 86p Cadburys Egg I found in Home Bargains, promoted and sold without a box and all the excess packaging. Another one purchased for the missus. Youngest is 8 months old which is great, she doesn't give a crap... My lady love knitted some bunnies for the other tiddly winks. I spent an hour watching the relatives kids, of which there were three, collect no less than 16 eggs each! % of which were full size boxed ones. When the heck did one chocolate egg cease to be sufficient? Am I THAT much of a miser? If I am, I blame my parents cuz thats all my sister and I got and we were damn grateful! (Supplemented of course by one or two others sent from family, so maybe three max?) Is it a wider issue? Is it a symptom of society? Conspicuous consumption, a demonstration of alleged affluence? I learnt the Maya indulged in such display right before their civilization collapsed. I may be alone. An insane ranter picking needless holes in an otherwise charming and innocent family get together. Should I forget, as everyone else appears to, of Easters origins? Of the pagan celebration of spring and the return of life and food after the 'hungry gap' following winter? Instead focusing on the quantity of crap I can lavish on my offspring at every commericalised holiday and opportunity? Think I'll go to bed.... Ideation 8,216
16 is a bit excessive, aye, you only give a kid one, and they are lucky if friends / familly give them others. As for the packaging, it's a piss take!
Mooch. 177
To right, one's enough. Easter is now more a celebration of chocolate than welcoming in the spring. And who decided we should be sending each other Easter cards now I wonder!
The Duncan 802
You pay an awful lot of money for air when you buy an easter egg. My two get a couple plus whatever our extended family dish out which is more than enough IMHO. Same as OP, as kids, we were just grateful for whatever we got.

Night Hunter 109
I bought my boys a very large 400g bar of dairymilk only cost about £3.49 and there is a heck of allot more chocolate than in a scanky £10 easter egg.
