Terrier Stuff 0
My nearly 7 month springer pup is VERY active and she has recently lost weight.I can see her hip bones, rubs etc. She has about 2 hours free run in the forest/cattle fields a day and she eats about 2-3 pounds of raw meat/bones/offal a day Is she ok or could she put on a few pounds She is thinner than the below photo

Guest whitser
keep her well wormed. if shes getting plenty of exercise give her food til shes full. could be the breeding to alot of springers today, especially the field trial breeding, are slender and not as heavy boned as the old type. skycat 6,173
She does look a bit light: her head looks too big for her body and she seems to be lacking overall bulk. Having said that as she's only 7 months old she might just be going through a skinny stage as she's still growing. Has she always been a skinny? Is she getting enough fat in her diet: dogs get their energy from fat, so if she is very active she might need a lot more fat than she's getting. Protein builds muscle, but if she's getting a lot of protein and bones but not much fat then she'll be drawing on her reserves too much: try adding more animal fat (the fatty bits the butcher trims off beef and lamb) or breast of lamb with all the fat left on. socks 32,253
2 to 3 lbs of raw meat is way to much for a dog of her breeding and age to be eating ... what EXACTLY are you feeding her on a daily basis ......... ..........
Terrier Stuff 0
She has always been skinny,at 7 weeks old when I picked her up she was very thin , she was the smallest in the litter (and the only girl). She went through a VERY skinny stage at 16 weeks old (photo below) but she has always been thin, She gets fed (in no order) Whole chickens Rabbit Pheasant Chicken legs Lamb breast Lamb hearts Ox heart Ox kidney Chicken wings Pork ribs Lamb ribs Lamb lights Raw green tripe Eggs I think thats about it.. Could I feed her as much as she wants twice a day?? 2 to 3 lbs of raw meat is way to much for a dog of her breeding and age to be eating ... what EXACTLY are you feeding her on a daily basis ......... .......... On a daily basis she gets Two lamb hearts,Two chicken drumsticks,a few peices of beef and maybe an egg It does change daily though Edited May 10, 2007 by Terrier Stuff
Simoman 110
I'd worry if my dogs weight was like that. I agree with Nikey, doesn't sound like 2-3lb of meat. My wings come in 5lb bags and contain over 25.........Either your diet is wrong or the dog needs the vets.
socks 32,253
right do away with the offal and feed that dog on 3/4 lb of chicken and 1/4 lb of beef daily .... the chicken will put the muscle on and the beef wiil have enough fat to stop her burning up muscle tissue (weigh the meat so that you know she is getting the correct amount ) .............. tyson 1
Get her a B12 syringe from the local farm/equestrian supplies store and then get a bottle of Metatone from the chemist and give her some of that also from your diet chart she looks to be lacking in OMEGA 3 OIL or oily fish
