Hi Darryl.

 

Another Marksman refurb and another brilliant read on what you put into it!

 

I thought this was great, particularly as I have a long-held genuine soft spot for the Air Arms TX200 MkIII. It's a criminal thing to see as fine a sporting rifle as this so buggered up with poor, rough treatment and rusting, thoughtless care.

 

Always a real pleasure to read what you know and see it being put to such great work. I'm right impressed with the reblueing job you put in! Looking forward to reading what you will do with regard to finishing the stock.

tidy job mr i am impressed with the blueing also. these tx s and prosports are just so easy to work on, its shocking how few parts are in them! not that i have hardly used my pro since rebuilding it been too busy with work and my allotment ect .

so true it gives you a certain air of confidence once you have had one to bits and put it back together with no hiccups and get consistent chrono readings. i just need to bite the bullet now find the time and service me 410 ! i have a great dvd off davey so it should not be a problem but its finding the time.

just out of interest Darryl say you had a old bsa that had been painted could you clean it back to metal and use that bisley blue on it? or does it need to be a previously blued rifle?

The BSA was far too gone to be taken back to the bare metal mate, was quite heavily pitted but on a decent rifle I dare say it could be possible, but a hell of a big job

Darryl that stock looks absolutely lovely. Who'd have thought a bit of Beech could look so well. Andy (FR1968) has been on at me for ages about refurbing my HW80 stock this way. Now I see what he's been driving at!

 

This TX200 should make a superb rifle to keep when you've got it all together and running smooth.

Been to Steve Smiths shooting ground this morning, its the most local range to me and decided to put the TX through the mill

 

I started to feed it AA Field but as with the same story the skirts were all over the place causing flyers, then tried H&N FTT but found them quite tight to push into the barrel but the groupings were closing up.

 

My final choice were Daystate Rangemaster Li at 14.3gn which it decided it loved, so after cleaning & putting a hundred or so through in quick succession to lead the barrel I settle down to do a few groups to see if I could get back into shooting a springer again.....

 

I'm not going to embarrass myself by showng you the earlier groups as they were utterly horrendous by my standards but then things started taking shape.....

 

This is the best group of the day before the heavens opened and gave us a nice hail shower...

 

10 shots with 1 huge flyer and 1 small pull left(probably shooter error!!)

 

Thus endeth the lesson..... a refurbed springer than can pull groups as though it was straight out of the box
