Sporting Magazines

Looking through a few magazines every month I take to work with me, the worst being Sporting Rifle, I have to say what a load of clique bullshit, the pages are full of spam advertising of clothing and equipment, most not properly tested through a hunting season, every man and his dog is wearing a Harkila Pro Hunter Jackets, there all sheep, I can't look at the Harkila stuff no more through them, talk about ramming it down peoples thoats.. It's like a must have if your into stalking, to keep up with the joneses... Oh and all the editors go on freebie safari's and spam the hell out of the magazines with there free outings..Probably the same 3-5 people going out and writing about there holidays every magazine now..

 

To me, its more about money, than the love of the sport, it just seems far too false, with the same smarmy mugs every month, it caters for novices with more money than sense in my eyes...

 

Oh that and theres lads on here with more knowledge and experience that go out and do it week in, week out without a mention. Or giving themselves daft magazine names and kudos...

all very true ian, have you noticed the pictures keep being recycled. the same with sporting gun, when i used to have them every month i noticed it, there is a picture of a bloke in camo with a jungle hat shooting pigeons from a bale hide, i must have seen that same picture half a dozen times over a couple of years

True, I keep buying the same mags, hoping that this week/month it will have changed from the last time and have a few decent articles..... then I flick through it, skim over one article and the give it to my mate. Talk about PC bollocks..... ffs most countrymen want to read the real deal stuff written by men that still have dirt on their hands while typing it out, not the 'Big names' that just repeat the advice BASC etc pump out.

 

I've e-mailed editors before requesting terrier work and more hard core pest control stuff but the best they dare publish is a bit of ratting. It's also clear to see how anti lurcher some of them are.

I like Sporting Gun but I'm one of the novices so I've learned loads from it.

 

Others I have bought are Shooting Times which I found rubbish and The Field which is just slightly above my station but still it's interesting to read and covers different kinds of field sport (for the wealthy).
