gnasher16 30,118
Thanks very much chaps .....Its something id probably have laughed at as a younger man but the older we get the more new challenges arise that we never really gave thought to previously and its always good to test ourself.............one day id like to be able to have the knowledge to do something like that without taking my own food ......but as a beginner to this lark i,ll keep my goals realistic You Scots might have shit football to watch up there but you certainly make up for it with that scenery.....stunning !!
gnasher16 30,118
The 3 peaks challenge is Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike in 24 hours. Tbh I'm expecting the driving to be the killer. That said, I've not climbed any of them... even once!!! But feck it, how hard can it be?...... In 24 hours .....I cant see how thats possible.....the driving alone must be about 12 hours......and if im not wrong the summit of Ben Nevis they say allow 6 hours.......good luck to you mate .......id imagine you lose a bit of the enjoyment and it becomes a straightforward challenge race type thing when putting time scales like that on.....id feel the need to keep knobbing about taking pictures and doing peaceful deep breathing exercises
marshman 7,757
Well done mate! It's nice to push yourself out of your comfort zone sometimes. Trouble is it can be addictive and you start looking for bigger challenges.

gnasher16 30,118
Well done mate how did you cope with the midges they can be nightmare atb I have absolutely no idea why but i had no bother with them at all.....it was something id prepared for as everyone had been telling me about them, but apart from 1 early evening spell about halfway through the week when they seemed to be everywhere ( i even broke out into a jog to get away from them ) ...wasnt a problem....had the odd few but certainly not as bad as id imagined.

gnasher16 30,118
Well done gnash. If your planning another one next year and fancy a good walk whilst seeing some nice scenery. Give the west highland way a bash. Yep it was something i looked at before doing this.......but i had to keep my feet on the ground and realise this was basically just a daft bet between mates i couldnt afford to run away with myself thinking i was an exprienced walker/hiker without first knowing if i could even manage on my own for a few days ......I still say the mental side to this sort of stuff is far harder than the physical.....West Highland Way is about 100 miles i believe, still a little bit beyond me i think using accomadation or following paths is cheating so wouldnt mind a bit more experience in my compass/map reading skills and wild camping in general before attempting something like that

derbylad1 293
I've done the 3 peaks in 24 hours and its fecking hard work. You wont be able to do the driving and if you did, your asking for trouble because that means staying awake for 24 hours and then being at the wheel around the counrty lanes....thats just stupidity and dangerous to you and others. You have to do it in the peak of summer so you get the longer days. You start the bottom of Ben Nevis early hours of the morning, up and back down and get some sleep whilst someone else drives. Same for scarfell and snowdon. Edited June 6, 2012 by derbylad1
