Just to say thanks to the good folk off here who gave me help and advice i got back off my little trip Tuesday last week it was a piece of cake really nowhere near as bad as i thought it might be.....

I had completely forgotten that you were going to do this and hadn't realised you had been, done it and come back, good effort. There is something very uplifting and calming about having a week to yo

Thankyou sir ......its mad the way the mind plays tricks with you....no doubt about it there was times when i thought " f**k this what am i doing this for, never again "......but when i got back home

gnash, a serious bit of advice. TAKE A FECKING PHONE! The mountain rescue bods have enough to do without having to hunt the hills for a lost eejit who couldn't take a bit of advice!

Other than that, are you sure you'll be able to carry 7 days of rations in your pack? Even high energy density stuff you'll need a fair bit to keep you going. Add to that a tent and sleeping bag, and waterproofs, warm clothes and dry underclothes and you've got a fair bit of weight.

Learn what foods are about where you're going (not much where you've chosen, but there are foods available) that will let you reduce the number of calories you need to carry. If I had to choose a place for doing a similar trip I'd go coastal. There's always loads of free, easy food to be found on the shore.

Have you looked at one of the islands? The Isle of Rum would be a good challenge to circumnavigate around the coast. It's about 30 miles (can be done in two days if you're determined, can be made to last 7 if you take it slowly)

To be honest im settled on the route now ive studied it as much as appears possible from google earth :icon_redface: ........distance wise it should be a piece of piss as its only around 28 odd miles.....obviously a lot of that is likely to be boggy ground and maybe having to dodge round the odd loch might put a few more miles on but still 4 or 5 miles a day cant be too difficult surely......the first rucksack i made up last week weight 72 lb......now while i accept thats nothing for these rough and rugged army boys i was told its too heavy for a poof like me whos never done it before.......so ive now got it down to low 50,s and hoping to shave a bit more off yet.

Food wise im quite confident i have enough knowledge to get by.......strength/stamina wise again im confident........its just the being on my own bit im not sure about  i might try and kidnap a roaming animal to make friends with for the week..............nothing physical of course :whistling:

Good luck with this one gnasher, I don't know why but I'm a bit jealous of you.... A week of peace and quiet no phone, missus or kids sounds like heaven.....until you chuck in midges, hunger, cold lol...... I would personally take a telescopic rod and reel few spinners and hooks, you could dig a few worms and catch yourself a nice trout for tea.... Be a nice way to unwind after a days yomping sat by a loch having a fish ....and getting your head bit to pieces by midges.....

Seriously good luck mate look forward to your posts once you've done it...
