a few pigeons

Recommended Posts

ayup lads. :bye:

woke up this morning to an absolute blizzard!! walked to work (30 long mins) to work 7-5.

walked home again this time it was cold and windy but not blowing snow into my face!

grabbed the 97 and headed for the local farm, about 5-10 min walk over the field..

walked into the shed and had a look around but couldnt see anything, started walking towards the back of the shed and a pigeon flys out of nowhere!! the same one that avoided me in the same fashion last night!!

stayed towards the middle of the shed for a while to see if anything would fly in seing as theres only one enterance.

anyway 2mins later a pidgeon flys in and lands on the support beam girder type thing above the door.

i squeeze the trigger and pidgey flys off.. whaaat?? not more than 25yards away i couldnt actually believe it! went out into the yard and there was another sat on the edge of the roof. i took another shot and missed again...!!!

i put a target up and checked the sighs and it seemed fine, shooting about an inch low..

anyway 5 mins later another came in and landed in the same place. i thought id try shoot from a bit thurther away bout 23-25 yards. i leant on the big machine thingy that was in there steadyed away and squeezed gently.. bang, flap flap.. thud! upon inspection i hit the pigeon just at the top of its head, clinical shot straight to the brain.

had a walk towards the back of the shed again and that b*****d pigeon came out of nowhere again!! huhh??!! i had a quick look through the scope and it looked asif it had been coming in through a small hole in the corner! little twat!! haha. started walking back to the front got about half way just as another pidgey was landing in. he looked a bit nervous so i rested on the machinery again and waited for him to settle.

20 seconds later after he walked around on his perch for a bit we were both ready for it so i steadyed up on his eye and let the pellet go.

flap flap flap thud flap flap flap flap!! plenty of nerves this one! he landed inside the machine thing that was full of hay and cow dung so i had to go grab a shovel from the yard to scoop him out! looked and it appeared i had hit him about 1cm to the side of his eye. another decent shot and one more flying rat sorted for mr farmer

thought id go to the back of the shed again and wait for my mate to see if he would come and see me.. turns out he (or probably she) was already waiting for me!! i took a few slow steps so i could lean on the tractor to take a good steady shot this time it was about 30 yards and i could see it was ready to take off, probably counting down my steps towards him/her...

looking through the scope i could see it was looking straight at me wondering what i was doing.. nosey twat! i steadyed up nicely and knew it wasnt going to move about, its beady little eyes following my every movement, its beak pointing straight at me...

i released the trigger,, bang... thwack as the pellet his its mark, ding as it hits the wall behind the pigeon. no flapping?! did i miss. ?? No i cant have!

the head dropped and lay flat on the ledge. with one juddery movement his wing came open and stayed there. blowing in the wind coming from the hole..

i thought s**t how do i get him down? there was a step ladder in the shed but it was no way big enough. and i didnt want to be climbing walls.!

a quick photo and guns in the bag and im on my way.. quick knock on farmers door, told him i would come back with my fishing rod to get it down but he told me not to worry about it, ;)

home just in time to have sum pizza, a couple of strongbows and a bit of chelsea v benfica..

happy days :victory:
